“You’re kidding right?” David was perched on the side of Maddie’s desk, staring at her in disbelief; his eyes were two green emeralds piercing her soul.
Maddie sat back in her office chair trying to push the chair away from her desk to put some distance between them. David was so close that his intoxicating smell was causing her brain to get muddled. Now that she knew what was under his clothes that scent was even more powerful on her senses. Oh God, what was under those clothes... She mentally shook her head to get herself together. What had he just said? “No David,” she replied firmly. “Of course I’m not kidding.”
She looked down at her desk to avoid looking into those eyes that had so much power over her. She was sure that this was the best thing for them – for her – for her mental well-being. True, last night had been extraordinary. Although she had always surmised that being with David – making love with him – would be wonderful, but she never had imagined the loss of control and the incredible but frightening feelings it would evoke in her. Never had she felt such a fierce heat encompass her body and soul. She had never in her life wanted a man so deeply, so desperately – so passionately. And when he touched her, common sense, shame and self-control flew away leaving her soul and heart bared to someone she wasn’t sure wouldn’t break them in pieces.
And how could she be sure? Yes, he had told her he loved her the night before, and she had believed it. She had spent the night with him not only in absolute mind blowing physical ecstasy, but also in a state of pure happiness; finally consummating the long-pending relationship with the man she loved – and had been loving for a long time – and she had also felt loved back. But in the cold light of day, after the spell of that magic night had been over, she – being the person she was – hadn't been able to stop her mind from wandering, pondering, worrying... millions of questions had been straying through her tired brain.
What if he didn't really mean it?
What if this is never really going to lead anywhere? What is this anyway?
And if it is – where?
Oh God, I love him so much... but sometimes I want to strangle him. What if that never changes? How can we possibly make a relationship work if we constantly fight? Of course, that would lead to a lot of making up, but...
I'm sure he won't even think about that maybe being a problem – of course not – he never thinks anything through. Oh God, I really wished I wouldn't think so much. “Think too much and it'll go away...” he said that. Yeah, life is so easy if you never think farther ahead than the next weekend, just let's see what happens, anything can happen, and then – oh, who would've thunk that? Yeah, not you, Addison, I know.
We are too different, this can never work out, what was I thinking? Not with my brain anyway, I was thinking with my hormones. What have I done?
This is bound to end in a disaster. But still... I love him.Truly, madly, deeply. And he... he?
No, please, I want to think positive, I really do. We can make this work. We can do it. We just have to figure out how. How are we gonna do this? David, help me...
Of course, he had not been helpful at all. Okay, she knew that maybe it had been wrong to start the analyzing right away with the first ray of sun, the air still filled with the scent of their passion and their minds still dizzy from that wild ride – but she had needed to get it right from the very beginning. David either hadn't understood her, or he just didn't care what concerned her. Both alternatives meant they were doomed.
No, it was better to end it before his lovemaking became an addiction; she had the suspicion that this could happen very easily. Better to stop the madness now before she was buried so deep in his power that she would never be able to rise to the surface again. Making love to him had made her realize how deeply she loved him, but not knowing if she was just another notch on his belt buckle – not being certain that he returned her feelings as strongly – was too frightening to consider; so better to stop it. Make believe it never happened. She could do it, she just hoped that he wouldn’t fight her on this ‘pact’ business too forcefully. Surely, he would be angry and hurt but he’d get over it, and it wouldn’t have to ruin their friendship or their business relationship.
Maddie looked up but wouldn’t meet his eyes. She ran her hand across her forehead pushing a few locks of hair behind her ear. Yes, that was how she felt. Or was it? She was sooo confused. What did she want? She wanted a committed relationship with a man she loved who loved her, and not knowing if David wanted her in that way was tearing her apart. So, as if she was removing a band aid she would pull it off all at once and deal with the hurt instead of pulling it off a little at a time prolonging the agony. “Okay?” she asked in a shaky voice.
David looked at Maddie carefully. Was she nuts? After the mind bending night they had shared she wanted to forget it? How could he ever forget the way she felt in his arms? Finally, after years of wanting her he had tasted paradise – and now she wanted to pretend it never happened?? From what was burnt into his brain he knew that Maddie had loved every single minute they had spent together last night. Her moans, sighs and cries of ecstasy reverberated in his mind. So, what kind of game was she playing now? Could it be in the cold light of day she was regretting the loss of the Space Cowboy? Maybe she felt that he wasn’t good enough for her?
Certainly, earlier in the morning it hadn't looked like that. Although, he remembered, when he had wanted to snuggle up to her she had moved out of his embrace. He didn't even remember what exactly she had said to him after he had opened his eyes, but somehow she had seemed to blame him for having enjoyed their lovemaking which had struck him as really crazy – apart from the fact that she had enjoyed it as much – how could he not have enjoyed finally getting together with the woman he loved, had been loving for a long time? It had taken him long enough to admit it to himself, to muster the courage to open up again, and it had felt wonderful to say those three words again to a woman and to hear her say it back – why should he pretend now that he hadn't enjoyed making love to her all through the night? Sure – they would have to figure out some things, but they had all the time of the world for that; they could at least enjoy their newly found love a bit? No, of course not. Of course, she had had to start questioning him right away, instead of greeting him with a good morning kiss.
How are we gonna do this? What the hell had she expected from him, a ready made life plan? And what the hell had she meant with You have done this before, haven't you? Hadn't she realized that he had never experienced anything like this before in his life? That this all was as new for him as it was for her? That moment, he had clearly felt swamped and tried to play it light; and she had seemed to play along. They would talk everything through later; they always did.
And now here she was, telling him they needed to make a fucking pact to forget it ever happened?! As if it had been nothing more than a casual one-night-stand or a crappy date gone bad? Had it ever really meant anything to her? Or had she just wanted to get him out of her system and was asking herself now if there was any chance she could beam Captain fucking Kirk back on the Enterprise?
David hated the way she wouldn’t even meet his eyes. Damn her! A deep hurt and boiling anger began to bubble beneath David’s calm surface but he’d be damned if he’d show her how he really felt. He wanted to reach out and shake some sense into her, but instead he forced a smirk on his face and nodded his head at her question.
“Yes you’re right.” David lied nonchalantly, his handsome face expressionless.
Maddie was shocked and thought at first she hadn't heard right. What was this? “I’m right?” She sputtered, confused at David’s easy acquiescence to her plan.
He nodded his head again. “Sure,” he replied in a controlled voice. “It’s best for the business.”
Maddie couldn’t believe her ears. “It is?”
“Of course it is,” he confirmed. “And it’s all about the business around here.” He nodded seriously controlling his real feelings and putting on his extra heavy bullet proof face and added: “And about our friendship.”
Maddie swallowed her hurt and anger. Why did she suddenly have the urge to claw out those damn green eyes – those same green eyes that had smoldered with passion for her only hours before – when she was the one who had set this plan in motion? Make a pact to forget their lovemaking ever happened? How could she ever forget the way she felt in his arms? What had she done? But now there was no turning back.
“Then we have a pact,” she tried to sound firm.
“Fine,” he shrugged.
“Fine,” Maddie told him with a slight edge to her voice.
He pursed his lips and tilted his head in a slight, barely perceptible nod. “Good.”
“Good!”
For a second, her voice almost broke, and a strong déjà-vu washed over her as they were staring at each other like two silent warriors. Her insides tied together in a tight knot. Now was the moment he had to insult her, to throw something at her that would pull her out of her state of shock, like the bitch! From the night before. Do something! she screamed, pleaded inwardly. Say something! Tell me I'm wrong and this is all bullshit! Kiss me to shut me up, and let's forget the last five minutes ever happened, and we'll start where we left off this morning!
But David just leaned forward and put both hands on her desk inches from where she sat, and added pointedly: “Perfect.”
Maddie felt numb inside, not able to utter a single word any more, as she watched David turn to leave her office.
When he had reached the door, David turned around again to face her, put two fingers to his lips and threw her a kiss as he opened the door to leave. “Later.” He spun around, closed the door softly behind him and was gone, leaving Maddie looking at the closed door with a heart that was slowly crumbling to pieces.
“Bastard,” she whispered tonelessly, tears welling up in her eyes.
***
A few hours later David and Maddie were headed to the bar where Margaret Kendall’s fiancé worked to see what if they could decipher his feelings for plain, rich Margaret, their brand new client. Margaret had explained to them what her father, who was an extremely wealthy man who owned several hospitals, thought about her relationship with a poor bartender. He of course thought that Robert only wanted her for her money. So she hired Maddie and David to try and prove to her father that Robert Murphy truly loved her.
David was talking to Maddie a mile a minute, teasing, bantering, joking – in short words, behaving exactly like he always did – he would not give her any indication that her ‘pact’ crap bothered him at all. He noticed that Maddie was huddled against the passenger door with her eyes turned away from him. She hadn’t uttered more than a few words since Margaret Kendall had left the office. Now this was a nutty case. How the hell were they supposed to prove that a man truly loved a woman? But in his heart the relationship between the poor boy and the rich girl mirrored the relationship with him and the nutty blonde who seemed to be pointedly ignoring him. The thought that Maddie maybe didn’t think that that he was good enough for her, that she maybe thought she wasn't supposed to be with someone like him flitted through his mind. That deeply hurt him, but damn if it didn’t seem like she was actually angry at him?
“Hey Blondie blonde,” David called to her in his sticky sweet voice.
Maddie had never realized how small the interior of the BMW actually was and how close the passenger seat was to the driver. She moved as far away from David as she could while still sitting in the inside of the car. How could he act like nothing had happened between them the night before? Maddie inwardly fumed even though that was exactly what she had told him she wanted. Her insides were in turmoil as she tried to ignore his constant chatter as if everything was the same between them, when in her heart nothing would ever be the same again. She heard him calling her, ripping her from her unhappy thoughts, and the sound of his voice made her heart beat faster. She turned her head and was hit with a bolt of heat when her eyes took in his handsome profile. He was staring straight ahead as he drove and the slight pucker of his lips, his chiseled jaw and way his arms and shoulder filled out his shirt caused pure lava to fill her veins.
“What is it you want, Addison?” she snapped. Her emotions were raw and she felt cranky and unhinged.
“Just wanting to make sure you’re still with me.” David turned to her with his panty melting lopsided grin. “You’ve been awfully quiet today.”
“I have a lot on my mind.” The words had slipped out before she was able to hold them back, dammit! He wasn't supposed to suspect she was thinking of last night, of the way he had held her, touched her, made love to her... She clenched her hands to fists, her nails digging painfully into her palms, to stop herself from thinking these thoughts. She saw David purse his lips as if he were in deep thought. God, how she wanted to reach out and touch him, feel his afternoon stubble underneath her finger tips, trace his lower lip with her thumb... she clenched her fists harder.
“Really, and what could possibly be on your mind this fair day?” he asked ironically. “I mean, nothing worthwhile or different has happened in the past say 24 hours, has it?” He shook his head. “Oh, I bet you’re thinking about Margaret and her lover boy.”
“Yes, of course that’s exactly what I’m thinking about!” Maddie sputtered.
David laughed inwardly. It was becoming apparent that Maddie’s mind was on anything but this case.
Maddie buttoned her lips tightly but again couldn’t help watching David from the corner of her eyes. She watched his fingers, those long fingers drumming on the steering wheel and almost moaned when she remembered the magical way they had made her lose her mind. She clamped her legs together when she felt herself dampen as she remembered how his muscular arms had held her so close to his hard body, as if they wanted to keep her imprisoned for ever. She suppressed a groan as scenes from the previous night ran through her fevered brain. Her mind wandered back in time….
“Oh baby, you are so beautiful...” David purred as he rained slow hot kisses over her throat to that spot that he had so deftly discovered earlier that night. How had she gone 36 years before David had discovered that magic spot that seemed to be directly connected to her loins? She moaned deeply as his flaming tongue moved over that spot over and over again; his hands were all over her body – stroking, caressing, adoring every inch of her skin. Her body was throbbing with a desperate need to explore every inch of his body as he was doing to hers. Her hands roamed over his muscular body – hesitant, almost shyly at first, then getting bolder by the minute, and finally with a wild abandon she had never felt before. She couldn’t get enough of the feel of his skin – her mouth took over where her hands left off until David was calling her name in ecstasy...
“Maddie. Maddie!”
At first Maddie thought she was still lost in her daydream when she heard David calling her name. She sat up and blinked when she saw him snap his fingers in front of her eyes and heard him say that they had arrived at the bar.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” David asked when he opened the passenger door and reached out his hand to help Maddie out of the car.
Maddie ignored David’s offer of help as she stomped out of the car. “I’m fine. Stop asking me!” She almost growled as she disappeared into the bar.
David stood there almost paralyzed for a moment; she was an enigma to him. Of course, in the morning his first instinct had been to tell her to stop talking bullshit like that pact crap and kiss the stupid words off of her lips, but he had been too shocked and hurt and yes, also angry, but he couldn't show her any of this. He didn't know if there was any chance she would change her mind about it, about them – and honestly, in that moment, that blink of an eye, he hadn't even been sure he was interested any more. After all those obstacles they had overcome before they had finally gotten together, after all her you smell awfuls and I hate yous and I don't want yous this had been the ultimate sucker-punch, and his own words had been ringing in his ears –no woman is worth this! But still – that damn crazy ice queen that had melted so completely and willingly in his arms the previous night was the love of his life, and he knew that. He couldn’t change the way he felt about her – and he damn well knew that she felt the same way about it. He had to find a way to make her admit her feelings, embrace them. But knowing her, he was sure that by pushing and pursuing her he would only push her away further; no, it wouldn't work like that. She had to realize on her own the feelings she had for him.
But her reactions to him throughout the day, the way she had avoided being close to him but still watched him from under her long eyelashes when she obviously thought he didn't notice it made him think that she hadn't been able to just forget what had happened between them.
Without even noticing, his lips curled into his half-smile when he followed her into the bar.
***
David pulled into the traffic and headed back to Blue Moon. He turned to look at Maddie who was staring straight ahead peering through the windshield, huddled against the passenger door again, just like on the car ride coming here. She was avoiding him again, as if any casual touch would threaten to tear her dam down, unleash the wildcat in her. Damn, why did she have to be such a control freak? He was sure that was her main problem – Maddie Hayes loved to feel in control of everything and everybody. She already knew that she couldn't control him, but now she had discovered that when she was with him she couldn't even control herself, and that must have scared the hell outta her. She needed to understand that there was nothing wrong with that. She needed to see that losing herself in him only made their lovemaking more passionate – more exciting.
David wanted to stop the car and pull her in his arms, demanding she look at him, but he couldn’t – he wouldn’t – do that. Maddie needed to come to her own decision that she wanted him, and he wouldn’t seduce, cajole or beg her to help her come to the conclusion he wanted. That they both wanted, if only she would admit it to herself. Otherwise the consequence would only be her getting mad at him for making her break her stupid pact and then calling for a new pact. Yes, he truly believed she was that crazy.
David had been with plenty of women in his life to know the difference between a woman in love with him in his arms to one who was just in it for the physical pleasure. The way Maddie had so casually told him they needed to forget what happened between them stung when he thought of the possible reasons for her ridiculous ‘pact’. She probably thought that they didn’t belong together. Maybe she didn’t believe he was good enough for her or the kind of man she was supposed to be with. She was used to nice safe men with successful careers and Ivy League educations – like Sam. Maybe she was regretting not accepting his proposal. David was at a loss to how to get Maddie to actually tell him what was going through her blonde head, so instead he donned his bulletproof poker face.
“Well, guess we have nothing to tell the old man.” David ran his hands through his hair and nodded slowly. “He doesn’t love her.”
Maddie's head snapped around to face him; she was shocked. “Of course he does! Didn’t you see his face when he spoke about her? Didn't you hear what he told us?” Murphy had told them how he had met Margaret and how he had fallen in love with her. Maddie found it romantic; she could see in his eyes how much Robert loved Margaret.
David felt like punched in the gut; of course that poor slob loved the girl, of course David had realized that at once. He was just surprised that Maddie would recognize that looking at a complete stranger. But she didn't see it when she looked at him? Suddenly, he wanted to punch back. He snickered. “Tell a girl you love her, and she’s putty in your hands.”
“What does that mean?” Maddie asked, annoyance coating her voice.
“Nothing, it means nothing.” David shook his head. “Just saying that these two ‘lovebirds’...” the way he said that word so snidely made Maddie wince, “don’t belong together.”
Maddie sat up straight. “And why do you say that? Robert Murphy looks like a man in love.” She felt in her heart that he loved Margaret. How could David not see that?!
David sniggered, “So now you’re an expert on men in love?”
Maddie shook her head. Where did that sudden sharpness come from? He surely did not look like the man she knew; this wasn't light and playful banter, not even crude innuendoing. He was being snide, and she knew him well enough to have learned that this was usually a sign of him feeling hurt himself. So what she had told him this morning had hurt him? Wasn't he as bulletproof, as unbroken as he pretended to be? Did he want her to call off the pact? But then – why didn't he try to persuade her, convince her... seduce her? Why was he always confusing her? Damn that man! “You know what I mean!” She snapped.
“Uh, no babe, I don’t.” David pulled into their spot in the garage below Blue Moon. “Murph loves one thing and that’s her money.”
Maddie slammed out of the car. “You’re wrong!”
The argument continued as they made their way to the office. Maddie tried to slam her office door in David’s face but he pushed it open and followed her inside. “So, Cupid, what makes you think that he loves her?” David perched on the edge of her desk and crossed his arms. “I mean – she is nothing like the sort of woman he is supposed to be with.”
Maddie threw David a withering look as she paced around her office. “And what type of woman do you think with your small, narrow mind is he supposed to be with?”
A smirk appeared on David’s face as he looked at Maddie. “Um not mousy Margaret Kendall.”
“Stop thinking with your underwear, Addison.” she snapped.
“Oh please, be realistic for one moment,” he sneered. “My underwear has nothing to do with it. That's just good, old, plain common sense – weren't you always a fan of that? Don't you always believe the worst and say men go for the looks?” He pierced her with his stare, suddenly angry. “Or does that only apply to me?”
Maddie ignored his last remark and his biting tone, although it had touched a string in her. This harsh reaction, out of nowhere? Why was he so angry – and why was he so damn hot and sexy when he was angry? She shook her head to get back to reality. “What do you mean by common sense?” she asked icily.
“As I said, that man loves the money.” David shrugged. “They don’t belong together. He’s a poor messy slob, and she is a rich classy woman. They come from two different worlds.”
“So?” she shot back. “She's rich, and he isn't. Big deal. If two people love each other, they do belong together, and anything else that may cause problems can be solved somehow, if they both really want it.” Maddie bit her lip as if she had given away too much. Still, she couldn't help but add: “Since when don't you believe in that?”
“And since when do you?!” he wanted to know with acid sarcasm, and she flinched like he had hit her. David was on a roll now, letting out all his hurt and anger in a rather elegant, nonchalant way by making this all about the case. He sneered, “hey, I bet she really doesn’t love him either.” His green eyes pierced her blue ones mercilessly, and he added: “Probably just was laid properly for the first time in her life.”
Fury filled Maddie. Blue daggers flashed from her eyes, and she was glad for them – they would hold back the tears long enough to throw him out. “You are an animal.” She pointed to the door in distaste. “Get out of my office. NOW!”
David chuckled as he slowly stood up and sauntered to the door. He made sure to walk by very close to Maddie as he passed her. His face was inches from hers; he mouthed a kiss in her direction as he sashayed out the door which she slammed behind him so hard the walls shook.
She was relieved when he finally was out of her sight – that sight of him, along with the hurtful words he had just flung at her, was more than she could stand at the moment. The way he had put down the relationship between their client and the man she loved had hurt her more than him not objecting to her demand for a pact this morning. Not only was it obviously the easiest thing in the world for him to forget what had happened between them – how could he?! – no, he also had to pour dirt on it.
Tell a girl you love her, and she's putty in your hands!
They don’t belong together. They come from two different worlds.
I bet she really doesn’t love him either. Probably just was laid properly for the first time in her life.
Was that what he really thought, what he felt? Well, said a small, unpleasant voice inside her head, at least the "they don't belong together" thing was exactly what was on also your mind when you called for the pact this morning...
Maddie rubbed her eyes wearily. It was late afternoon, and she didn't have the nerve for dealing with files or phone calls now; besides, she was drop dead tired. Well, that wasn't exactly a surprise, after a night with hardly any sleep, after a night of passion, of wild...
"Oh, damn you, Addison!" she said out loud and pressed her fists to her temples. Would she ever get him out of her mind again? But if she was honest, that green-eyed devil had been on her mind since the day she had walked into his office for the first time three years ago; he had never left again. The more crucial question was – would she ever be able to get him out from under her skin? The sound of his voice in her ears, caressing her like melted caramel; the touch of his hands everywhere on her squirming body; the feel of his skin, his well-toned body underneath her fingers; his taste and his smell, that intoxicating scent that still seemed to be hanging in the air around her...
Maddie grabbed her purse and hastily left her office, just croaking a barely audible "I'm going home, I have a headache" in Agnes' direction. She had to get out of here.
***
David had left Maddie's office with a chuckle on his lips, but that had faded away as soon as he had reached the safety of his own office. He had barely sat down in his chair when the hurt and anger had slammed back into him full force. Who the fuck was she thinking she could tell a man was in love with a woman just by looking at him? When she had spent an entire night of total bliss with him and still didn't realize it? And he had even told her that he loved her! For days she had been pestering him to tell her how he felt about her, and the moment he finally told her what had been already obvious in his eyes, she decided that she either didn't believe him or simply didn't give a fuck about it.
Why was the first thing she had done this morning was sneak out of his arms and question him on how they were gonna do "this" – as if they were about to perform brain surgery? Everything with her always had to be complicated, negative, planned. And now all of a sudden she was like If two people love each other, they do belong together, and anything else that may cause problems can be solved somehow, if they both really want it?? Well, screw her – obviously, she didn't have any idea about what she wanted. Oh, it was clear that she was still hot for him, same as he was aching for her, and he was also pretty sure that she really loved him – but what was all of that worth, if she wasn't willing to give them a chance?
For a moment, David was tempted to return to her office and shake some sense into her – and maybe kiss some of her fucking common sense out of her, but deep down he knew that it wouldn't work like that. No, she had to come to him, of her own free will; she had to realize that she loved and wanted him, she had to muster the will to make it work between them and not shy away at the slightest obstacle. Damn that woman.
***
When Maddie arrived at her house, she stepped out of her pumps and let her purse drop to the floor, feeling utterly relieved to be at home, to shut the world and all the craziness out. That feeling faded away immediately when she went into the living room and saw the chaos there. She felt like she had been punched in the gut when her eyes fell upon the overthrown coffee table, the glass objects, vases, magazines and fire irons scattered all over the floor...
She closed her eyes, and in that fraction of a second she was back on that floor again, the thick plush carpet, only wrapped in a sheet, her limbs entangled with David's, and they were rolling around, passionately kissing, his hands roaming over her body, her hands frantically tearing at his belt buckle, pressing herself into him... Maddie forced herself out of her daydream when the feelings hit her full force; the passion that had driven her, the love, the arousal... damn, she could feel the heat spreading between her legs, and she was mortified by that. She gasped and put a hand over her mouth and stumbled backwards out of the living room, spun around on her heel and ran up the spiral staircase. The maid was due tomorrow, and she would tidy up the living room without asking nosy questions.
Later, after a long hot bubble bath and two glasses of white wine, Maddie crept between her sheets, drop dead tired, hoping for a good night's sleep and that the next morning everything would look different.
Her head had barely touched the pillow when she was struck by the memories of the previous night again. Of course, here in her bed David's smell was everywhere, and for a moment she contemplated getting up again and changing the sheets, but then she got angry with herself – hell, no! That was ridiculous! She'd be damned if she surrendered, if she allowed him to have that power over her without even being here! So she had his sweet, intoxicating, manly scent filling her nostrils with every breath she took – she could deal with that; no, she didn't care!
For a moment, the thought crossed her mind that maybe David would show up, bang at the door or just break in like he had done a few times in the past, and he would of course try to persuade her to call off the pact. Maddie was furious at herself when she realized she was not fearing but hoping that he would show up, and she tried to channel that fury by remembering how annoying he had been the previous night, how cocky and smug, thinking he could just show up at her place and she'd gladly fall into his arms... how dared he, and how dared he not show up now?
“Godammit,” she hissed when she realized where her thoughts were going.
She would sleep, and she would sleep well. She closed her eyes, clamped them tightly shut and was thankful to feel a drowsy dizziness sweep over her; her sleepiness, the hot bath and the wine were getting the better of her, and soon she would drift over to dreamland, wouldn't have to think any longer of David's perfect mouth on hers, demanding kiss after kiss, his lips and tongue traveling along her throat, finding that spot on her neck while her blood was rushing in her ears. She would forget the way her skin tingled all over, electrified by the touch of his big, strong hands roaming over her body, her legs, her arms, her face, her back, her breasts, evoking sensations she had never experienced before, making her squirm and writhe and moan underneath him, aching for more, and then he gave her more; his long, skilled fingers caressed and gently massaged her between her legs, in slow, incredibly sensual, circular motions while he kissed her again and again until her head spun, and she knew that no amount of wine would ever make her as dizzy as David's kisses.
In Maddie's fevered brain the scene of the previous night was replaying over and over again, and in her fantasy those caressing hands, those deft fingers that were pleasuring her now were David's again and not her own; let me remember it only once more, then I'll ban it from my memories. Yes, she would forget how she had grasped his muscular shoulders, her whole body arching against his, while she was shuddering with the first climax of that night, calling out his name...
“Oh, David... David!” she cried when she came, and suddenly she realized what had happened, what she had been doing, and a hot wave of shame washed over her.
Maddie sat bold upright, still breathing heavily, and found that her whole body was covered in sweat. She buried her face in her hands, mortified, desperate. She had wanted to forget everything about last night, pretend it never happened... and here she was, replaying it over and over again, and not only in her mind. She was disgusted with herself, and she heard David's mocking voice in her head: No backbone... I like that in a woman.
With a frustrated groan she pulled the sheets over her head. This was going to be a long night.
***
Maddie felt her heels digging into the carpet as she wrathfully stomped her way toward Blue Moon. There were dark smudges under her eyes from lack of sleep. After... well after that deplorable loss of self-control she hadn't been able to find her escape in sleep. Instead of that incident calming her down and freeing her from the tensions built up inside of her it seemed only to make things worse. Despite the physical release it had brought it was nothing compared to the way she had felt in David's arms, and the knowledge that she was so damn horny for him that she resorted to touching herself make her feel an irrational cold fury directed toward that green eyed devil who haunted her mind and body in every waking moment and in her dreams. How could she forget what had happened between them when her body, heart and soul craved him? All of him. She stopped at the door to the office and gazed at the Blue Moon logo painted on the door then threw back her shoulders and walked into the outer office.
Agnes was reading one of her mystery novels when Maddie walked in the door. It had been weirder than usual around Blue Moon for the past few days – first that slick upper class guy Sam Crawford had come to town and almost ruined everything and now that he was gone Agnes detected that something obviously had finally happened between her two stubborn bosses. So why weren’t they walking around with huge smiles on their faces? Why were they still slamming doors and looking angry at each other? Agnes mentally shook her head. These two!
“Morning Miss Hayes!” she called brightly.
“Morning Agnes.” Maddie’s eyes as usual glanced at the door to his office.
Agnes smiled. “He’s not in yet.”
“Oh.” Why wasn’t he in? Where had he been last night when she had been eagerly hoping that he would show up at her place in an attempt to break the pact? Didn’t he care at all?
Just as these thoughts ran through her head Maddie heard David coming down the hallway.
Maddie and Agnes both turned the sound of David singing loudly as he danced down the hall towards the office. Both watched as he bounded into the office singing at the top of his lungs.
“Wake Me Up Before You Go Go
Don’t leave me hanging on like a yo yo...”
He smiled at DiPesto, smirked at Maddie and continued his song as he played the drums on the side of the reception desk.
“But something's bugging you
Something ain't right
My best friend told me
What you did last night...”
Maddie’s neck turned beat read and the blush spread to her face when she heard those lyrics come out of David’s mouth. But then the sensible part of her brain took over and she realized that he couldn’t possibly know what she had done last night. The blush deepened when she remembered her shame.
David saw the blush cover Maddie’s face. Why was she turning beat red? What had she done last night that embarrassed her so much? Would she have done that over him? A chuckle escaped from his lips. Oh, she had it bad for him. He felt his pants tighten when he imagined Her Icy Highness Maddie Hayes touch herself while she was fantasizing about him.
“Great day ladies.” He winked at Maddie. “How ya doing, boss? Nothing like a good night's sleep, right?”
Maddie growled at David then turned on her heel and slammed into her office. Damn him! she thought acidly. She hated him!! Before she had the chance to sit down the buzzer to her intercom sounded. She picked it up and barked into the phone. “What is it?!”
***
David hung up the phone. He had tried to call Margaret Kendall to tell her that he believed Robert did love her but instead had been told some disturbing news by the housekeeper.
He was just about to get up and head for Maddie's office to tell her about the news, when she rushed into his office in a hurry.
“Whoa!” he said when the door was thrown open. “In such a hurry to see me? I'm flattered.”
She rolled her eyes and ignored his remark. “Dr. Kendall is dead and Robert Murphy was arrested for his murder!” she told him in a shocked voice.
David shot to his feet. “What?” He was stunned. “I just got off the phone with Margaret Kendall’s housekeeper, and she just confessed to the murder!”
Maddie and David exchanged puzzled looks. “What the hell?” they both said together.
“C'mon, let's go.” David grabbed his jacket from the back of his chair and put it on as he followed Maddie out of the office in a hurry. They didn’t speak more than a few words as they raced to the police station. Neither of them could believe what they just had heard – neither Robert Murphy nor Margaret Kendall seemed capable of murder.
“Do you think he did it?” Maddie inquired as David drove; his lips clenched and his jaw tensed. “Or do you think she did it?”
He shook his head thoughtfully. “I have no clue.” He turned to look at Maddie. “I wonder who was on the phone when we were at the bar? He raced out pretty fast when he got that call.”
Maddie shrugged. “I guess that’s what we need to ask Robert Murphy.”
David nodded. “But it makes no sense. Why would they kill the old man?”
“Sometimes things happen spontaneously. In the heat of passion.” Maddie looked at him. “Didn’t you say that?”
“I say a lot of things,” David replied vaguely as he pulled in front of the police precinct.
David went in alone to talk to Murphy while Maddie spoke to Margaret. The man told David he had killed the old man in a fit of rage and alluded that he didn’t really love Margaret at all, but David didn’t believe him. He insisted that Margaret was stupid and was just saying she had killed her father to protect him. Although David believed that Margaret Kendall would do such a thing – lie for Robert – , he didn't buy Murphy's story of killing her old man. But somebody had to have killed Dr. Kendall!
Margaret on the other hand told Maddie that she had killed her father because she lost her temper when he had put Robert down one too many times. She said she was sorry but she was guilty, and that Robert was lying to protect her. To Maddie, none of this made sense; she did believe that Robert would lie to protect Margaret, but she couldn't believe that the girl had murdered her own father. But who had killed Dr. Kendall?
David walked out of the interrogation room; Maddie was waiting for him. They exchanged stories as they walked to the car. They were still clueless as to what had really happened. David pulled into the traffic, but instead of heading back to Blue Moon he went in the opposite direction.
“Where are you going, David?” Maddie wanted to know. She was heart sick about what happened with Robert and Margaret and with what was not happening between her and David. The whole case had only been able to distract her from her heartache and confusion about her feelings for a little while. She just wanted to go back to the office, maybe hide in her bathroom and cry.
“I just want to fly by the house and take a look around.” He pursed his lips in thought. “Maybe we can figure out what really happened cause I don’t believe a frigging word that Murph just told me.” David shook his head and ran his hand through his hair. “Especially that he doesn’t love Margaret.”
Maddie’s jaw dropped and she looked at him in confusion. “But you’ve been so certain that he didn’t love her. Didn’t you say that?”
“I told you before I say a lot of things,” David mumbled, then remained silent until they reached the Kendall’s house.
Maddie was thinking of what David had said about Robert loving Margaret – what did he mean that he said a lot of things? Did that mean he hadn't meant it when he had told her he loved her? Did David mean he wasn’t so fine with her pact idea? Why did he have to talk so cryptically? Why was he always so damn confusing? It didn't cross her mind that she was the confusing one – telling him they needed a pact to forget anything had ever happened between them and then being mad and heartsick because he didn't fight her about that. Her head was filled with confusion.
David walked into the burnt out husk of a house and began to move pieces of burnt furniture looking for clues. He was shocked to hear the unique voice of Dr. Kendall calling his name. At first David thought he was hearing things – the man was dead – but then the old man walked into the room, and he was very much alive.
Maddie grabbed on to David’s arm without thinking when Margaret’s father walked into the room very much alive. She felt the muscles under David’s arm tense and held on tighter. “You’re alive.” Maddie gasped as she moved closer to David. This had nothing to do with sex; she just felt safer when she was near him. It had always been like that, since the day they had met.
“You’re a very good detective, Miss Hayes.” The old man laughed.
David felt Maddie huddling against his body, and he put his arm around her protectively and pulled her closer. She seemed upset at this new development, and his first thought was to comfort her. Then he turned to the old man.
Kendall explained that he was dying of cancer and had faked his death to frame Robert Murphy. But now that his daughter had confessed to protect her lover he had to step in. He gave Maddie and David a written letter saying he had committed suicide because the pain of his disease was too much to bear. He realized too late that Robert and Margaret’s love was true. They had both sacrificed their own lives and freedom to protect the other. Kendall made Maddie and David promise they would never let his daughter know what he had tried to do and not to tell her that he was alive. They agreed with spinning heads.
They immediately headed back to the police station to hand in the suicide confession and to have Robert and Margaret released from custody. The couple was euphoric as they left to start their lives together.
Maddie and David walked silently to the car, both happy for the young couple and the turn the case had taken, but both wrapped up in their thoughts and feelings.
Before they knew it, Maddie pulled up in front of David’s apartment building. She was hoping beyond hope that he would make a move to break the stupid pact she had so erroneously put into place – was it only yesterday? Maddie felt like she had lived a lifetime in the last couple of days. Her body burned for David, but her heart needed him too. She shut off the engine, not sure how to start a conversation.
“I didn’t do this to hurt you, David.” How could she make him understand what she didn’t really comprehend herself?
David’s head snapped up and his jaw tightened. “I’m not hurt,” he told her curtly.
Maddie nodded. “Good, that’s good.”
David nodded too. What did she want from him? She was holding on to the steering wheel for dear life; her face was so serious and she looked so vulnerable that he wanted to pull her into his arms and kiss her til she screamed for mercy. Instead he just sat there silently, because he knew there was no point in doing so. Either she would fight him off, or – or what was more likely – her resistance would crumble to pieces in his arms, and later she'd be angry at him and tell him they needed a new pact because breaking the old one had been another mistake. No, he wouldn't be able to hear such words again; it would hurt too much.
“Sooo, you’re sure you’re okay with this?” Maddie turned to him. She knew she wasn’t okay with it. She wanted to reach over and move her fingers and tongue across his scruffy face. She wanted to untie his crooked tie and pull it off as she unbuttoned his shirt to reveal the muscular chest so unfairly hidden under his clothes…
David couldn’t help but notice that look in Maddie’s eyes. Even though they had only been together that one night, already he could tell when she was horny as hell. He felt his dick stiffen but wouldn’t give in. He had to hear it from her lips that she wanted to break the stupid pact; in fact, probably it was even more important for her to say it herself than for him to hear it. Come on, Maddie. He decided shrewdly to play along and give her a push in the right direction.
“This?” he played dumb.
Maddie was getting annoyed. “That we forget what happened the other night!”
David shrugged his shoulders then scratched his head in feigned confusion. “Something happened the other night?” Two can play this game, Blondie.
Maddie gritted her teeth. What game was he playing? Or was he seriously trying to tell her that he had already forgotten a night she could never forget? She felt suddenly sick to her stomach. She had one last chance to know the truth and decided to throw caution and dignity to the wind; this was not the moment for stubbornness. She moved toward David who was slumped down in the passenger seat, quietly scrutinizing her with his incredibly gorgeous eyes, waiting... waiting for what? Damn, she just couldn't decipher the expression on his face.
Scraping all her courage together, she moved so close to him that their faces were only inches apart. Then she made a move as if she was going to kiss him, but deftly David moved his head and pushed against the car door.
“Whoa, Maddie!” he exclaimed in fake indignation. “What do you think you're doing?”
She blushed crimson red; of course, she hadn't expected a reaction like that from him. What the hell was wrong with that man? Her mind was blank, she didn't know what to reply. “I... I...” she stuttered.
“What about the pact?” David took a shot and played the ball her way. Come on babe, tell me you made a mistake. Tell me that you want me.
“To hell with you and your goddamn pact!” Maddie blurted out furiously, and David felt so punched in the guts that he couldn't do anything but stare at her in disbelief with his mouth hanging open. His goddamn pact?? “Always the easy way out!” she went on. “Why am I not surprised?!”
“What?!” he croaked. His pact???!
“No problems to talk about, no obstacles to worry about,” she raged on, and her voice became more shrill with each word, “no commitments!” She snorted disdainfully. “How convenient!”
David felt like they were on the brink of a breakthrough somehow, and he knew he should have been elated, but all he felt right now was a red-hot fury. So he was the one to blame again? He couldn't believe what he just had heard.
“You gotta be fucking kidding me!” he thundered, his voice loud and angry, really angry. “This isn't my goddamn pact, this is your goddamn pact!” His left index finger pointed at her like an arrow. “You insisted on it, remember? You said we should forget everything that happened!”
“And you couldn't be more delighted to agree!” Maddie shot back, realizing herself how absurd she sounded.
He ruffled his hair in despair, in total confusion. “What?!”
“You heard me!” she snapped, and suddenly, like if somebody had flipped a switch, all her fury and outrage were gone, and she only felt sadness, confusion and a terrible loss. “You didn't even try to convince me,” she added and felt defeated.
“Convince you?” David echoed, his own fury had evaporated too. “Of what? Of your own feelings? Or mine?” For a moment, they were just staring at each other, searching for answers in the other one's eyes... answers to questions that hadn't even been asked. Then, slowly, David shook his head. “If you don't feel it yourself, then nothing I could say could convince you of anything,” he told her and felt defeated too.
“I don't need to be convinced about feelings,” she replied, and that confused him even more. What did it mean? That she was sure about her feelings? That she loved him? That she knew he loved her? Then why this stupid pact crap?
“Then about what?” he asked softly.
She was silent for almost an entire minute before she finally said: “That everything... can be worked out.” She was staring down at her hands, not being able to stand David's intense stare. She was afraid of what she might see in it.
“But you didn't want to work it out!” he reminded her. “You didn't even want to try!”
Her head snapped up again. “Who says that?”
David sighed and rubbed his eyes warily. God, this woman was even more complicated than he had thought. Why couldn't he fall in love with someone simple? He couldn't keep a certain amount of sarcasm out of his voice when he answered: “Well, check me here, Blondie, but you said you wanted to forget it ever happened.” He threw his hands up in an exaggerated gesture. “How pray tell can you work out something that never happened?”
“I don't even know what happened,” Maddie retorted and then finally let out her true concern: “...or what you want from me.”
David's eyes popped open wide, and Maddie was hit by a green lightning bolt that struck her right where it hurt. “What I want?” he echoed in disbelief. Had he been the one sending mixed signals here, taking two steps back? Really, she was a fucking hard piece of work, and he would surely be better off without her. But that of course couldn't change the fact that he was head over heels in love with her. No, he wasn't willing to give up, not yet. His jaw tightened as he bit back a crude remark. “I think the other night I made that pretty clear.”
Maddie snorted. “Yeah, sure, you made it clear that you wanted to have mind blowing...” she fell silent and bit her lip, terribly embarrassed and annoyed at herself that she had let that slip. “I knew that before,” she added lamely and averted her eyes, feeling mortified by the traitorous red hot blush that was creeping across her face and neck. If he made a slick, smug remark now, she would just die...
“You knew before that it would be mind-blowing?” David asked sarcastically. “Yeah, well, so did I, and – surprise, surprise – it was... and that is something to feel guilty about?!”
“No, of course it's not!” she snapped and mustered the courage to look up at him again. Luckily, she didn't see any smugness on his handsome face, but she couldn't read his feelings either. She drew a deep breath. “And is that all it means to you, that it was mind blowing?” she wanted to know in a small voice. “Is that all you felt about it?”
David saw the pain on her face, and there was something else; longing maybe? Hope? He didn't take his eyes off of hers when he slowly said: “I told you that night what I felt.”
She flipped back her hair and suppressed the tears that wanted to well up. He just had said felt. Past tense. She swallowed. “So you really meant that?” she asked tonelessly.
David shook his head in annoyance. “No,” he snapped, “I toss those words around like business cards.” She looked at him like he had hit her. He drew a deep breath. “Of course I meant it when I said it.”
Still past tense. “But you're not saying it now?” she tried again.
“I'm not saying that,” he clarified without making anything really clear.
“Then what are you saying?” Maddie's voice was exasperated now; she was so tired – mentally, physically and most of all emotionally. She wanted to give up. But she couldn't; too much was at stake this time.
“I'm not saying anything anymore.” David shook his head firmly. “You are the one who has to say something now.” His stare pierced her, but it was not angry or sarcastic any more, it was more searching, almost encouraging. “You are the one who said we need a pact, you are the one who said we need to forget everything that happened.” He drew a deep breath and added: “You are the one who said it was a mistake.” Yes, that had hurt the most. “And now you are blaming me for playing by your rules, for not begging you?” Maddie looked away, not knowing what to say. “I'm not going to beg you,” he said firmly. “What do you want, Maddie?” David asked and drew a deep breath. He had to know. “Do you want the Spaceman back?”
She frowned and looked up. “Sam?” She shook her head, and David's heart leapt when he saw she hadn't been thinking of Sam at all. “I don't care about Sam.”
Okay. That was good. “Then what?” he wanted to know. “Maddie, you need to lay your cards on the table now. If this... this pact is what you want...” – he looked her firmly in the eyes and was surprised to see they hung on every word he was saying – “...then so be it. You called the shots before, you call them now.” She looked at him with an almost helpless expression, her eyes pleading with him, but David was determined to leave it at that. He had given her enough; the ball was in her court now, more than ready to be played. “So?” he urged. “Do you really want the pact? Do you want to forget everything?”
There was a long pause; she waited, but David was just looking at her, almost willing her to speak with his intense stare. And she knew he was right – she had called for the pact, and she had to call it off, if that was what she wanted. And if she wanted to stick to it, she would have to forget everything that had happened between them in that magical night – every touch, every kiss, every sigh. Every I love you. She loved him. She shrugged helplessly. “How could I?”
David swallowed the big lump in his throat. There, we're almost there. "But the question is: do you want to forget it?" he asked quietly. Maddie hesitated only for the blink of an eye before she slowly shook her head. David drew a deep breath. "Then why the pact crap?"
Maddie shrugged, a girlish gesture that made her look very young and vulnerable. "Fear of being hurt?" she whispered.
He was shocked. "Do you really think I would ever hurt you?" he asked in total disbelief.
She shook her head hastily. "No, not deliberately... but what if... what if..." she stumbled over her own words and fell silent, looking at him almost pleadingly. How could he not understand what was bothering her?
"What if what?" David urged.
Maddie threw her hands in the air. "What if this... thing doesn't work out?” she blurted out. “Look, you and me, we are so different, we are..."
"Hey,” he interrupted with a smile, “you know, somebody told me that if two people really love each other, they belong together, and everything else can be resolved, if they both want it."
She smiled back feebly, and he knew she was with him now. "And you believe that?"
"Of course I do," he declared firmly.
“What about common sense?” she asked.
He pursed his lips and tilted his head a little. “Common sense is overrated.”
Maddie slightly shook her head and looked down at her hands. That was the David Addison she knew. Her gaze searched his. "You never doubted for one minute that Murphy loves Margaret Kendall, right?"
David shook his head with a smile, his eyes never leaving hers. "One look at him and I could tell he's hopelessly in love with his girl.” With a very serious expression he added: “He would do everything for her."
Maddie's heart beat faster; something told her that David wasn't talking about Robert Murphy. "And what about her?” she asked. “Don't you think she just fell for him because..." she didn't know how to continue.
"Because she got properly laid for the first time in her life?" David helped out bluntly. She knew he wasn't talking about Margaret Kendall either.
Maddie blushed crimson red and looked away. "Yeah, something like that."
He shook his head. "Nope. The poor girl's crazy for him. She's a goner.” He leaned a little closer to her and emphasized his following words. “She loves him. Truly, madly, deeply."
Maddie swallowed hard; then she scraped all her courage together and said firmly: "Yes, I think she does."
There was a little pause, and for a moment they were looking at each other closely, their stares locked, the intensity of the moment almost filling the air with a buzzing electricity.
Finally, Maddie asked: "We aren't talking about Margaret Kendall and Robert Murphy any more, are we?" But it was more of a rhetorical question.
David's lips curved into a lopsided smile that was melting her insides. "Who are Margaret Kendall and Robert Murphy?" he asked, his eyes glittering with humor and, yes, unmistakable love. Maddie smiled back shyly, and he went on: "So, then there are no reasons why they shouldn't be together, right?"
Maddie nodded slowly. "I guess so..."
"Except for legal reasons, of course," David pointed out.
She frowned. "Legal reasons? What legal reasons?"
David pursed his lips and raised an ironic eyebrow. "Like a pact."
"Oh... right...” she replied sheepishly. “David...?"
He scrutinized her closely, with a loving, teasing twinkle in his eyes. "Maddie."
Come on, she urged herself, say it. End this madness once and for all. "Let's call it off,” she finally blurted out. “No – let's break it!” She made a move with her hands as if she wanted to crack a giant Easter egg. “I want to break that pact so thoroughly, once and for all, that it crumbles to pieces. Null and void." She looked at him and nodded as if to confirm her words.
David was melting with happiness inside. She had just admitted that she wanted him, and she finally wanted to want him now. His eyes glittered in blinding green when he teased: "Dead and not to be revived?"
"Dead and never to be revived."
A euphoric lopsided grin ran across David’s face, and his eyes shone with the happiness and relief he felt. “Oh baby!” David leaned close to Maddie, but wanted her to underscore her words with action now.
Maddie felt free – she felt happy – she felt as if a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders – and that feeling was fabulous. She smiled invitingly at David. “C’mere, stupid...” she teased, remembering the last time she had uttered those words. Then she had believed he was lost to her... unlike now when their future looked shiny and bright all of a sudden.
David covered her mouth with his, devouring her with hot steamy kisses. A bolt of electricity ran though their bodies. David’s tongue ran across her lips, down her throat and over her neck to that spot as his hands roamed freely over her body. Maddie was already lost in David’s caresses – her body was a raging inferno. How had she ever thought she could live without his lovemaking? Her hands stroked the massive boner under his jeans. She started to unzip his pants but David’s big hand stopped her. “No baby, let’s go inside. I want to make love to you in my bed.” His tongue played in her ear. “Okay?” David put his finger under her chin and tilted her face up so their eyes could meet. “I love you, Maddie. Do you believe me?”
Maddie could only nod, with happy tears in her eyes, and replied without hesitation: “I love you too, David.” She grabbed his hand in hers. “But I’m scared,” she admitted.
David grinned at her as he nodded. “And ya think I’m not scared?” He shook his head. “Let’s try and make each other un-scared.” He winked. “And making love is a good way to start.”
Maddie laughed, all that tension and pain crumbling away. “You and your one track mind.”
“And you love it.” He laughed as he pulled her out of the car by her hands and up the stairs to his place.
Maddie still didn’t understand how David could live in such a barren apartment but she pushed those thoughts out of her head. This was the moment for just living for their feelings, enjoying their love; everything else could be sorted out later – tomorrow, next week. She wrapped her arms around his waist and he pulled her against him. She could feel his arousal pressing into her belly as she melted in his arms.
David began to peel off Maddie’s clothes as their tongues danced together and their hands greedily wandered over each other’s bodies. It had been only two days, but to both it already felt like they had been apart for a lifetime. David’s fingers snaked between Maddie’s legs as she opened them for better access. His legs almost buckled when he felt the proof of her arousal and heard her moaning his name as her hot fingers ran under his shirt. He threw back his head and closed his eyes, almost overwhelmed by the feeling of holding her in his arms again.
“Oh God, Maddie...” David groaned when she boldly pulled down his zipper. His dick was twitching in his pants.
“Oh David...” Maddie moaned as he pulled out his massive erection and boldly placed her hand around his thick shaft. He panted when he felt her hands begin to stroke him in that age old rhythm. Maddie was in awe at the size of David’s dick. She whispered in his ear. “God, you are so big.” She moaned hoarsely. “I love it.”
David had to master every bit of his self-control not to fall over the edge when he heard those words pour out of her sassy mouth. “I need to be inside you,” he purred as he pushed her against the door of his bedroom, ripped off her sodden panties, wrapped her legs around his waist and pushed into her with one deep thrust.
“Oh God!” Maddie gasped when she felt David plunge inside of her and held on to him for dear life. She had never felt such an all-encompassing heat with any other man. She loved the way he filled her completely, almost stretching her to the limit. The feel of his dick inside of her – his balls against her ass pushed her over into a shattering orgasm before he even began to move against her. She cried out his name over and over as waves of passion covered her.
David felt Maddie pulsate around him before he even began to move inside of her. He remained motionless until he felt her orgasm subside then began to slowly make love to her; pushing slowly in and out of her; grinding into her – as his hand stroked her leg and thigh with his left hand – he led her over to the bed and pushed her down covering her squirming body with his.
Maddie was writhing under David. She loved how his hard body pressed her into the mattress; how his hands were wandering over her body as he made love to her. Just the sound of his voice purring into her ear made her body boil. She was completely lost in him, and it was great.
“I love fucking you, honey,” his voice was melted caramel mixed with corn syrup, “love how hot you get for me.” David’s lips and tongue traveled down to her aching breasts. His tongue flicked over her rock hard nipples, and she gasped. “I can’t get enough of you,” he whispered as his mouth worked its magic over her breasts. “You have the most amazing tits.” David’s hand moved up cupping her breast while his mouth rained soft baby kisses over her creamy mounds.
“Ohhhh...” Maddie was moaning under him in ecstasy, mumbling words that she only understood, crying his name out over and over as he brought her to her second earth moving release. Never in her life had she ever experienced more than one orgasm during lovemaking. But with David she was just getting started. She remembered how she had come and come over and over the first time they had made love. Her deep need and burning desires had scared her, but now she reveled in the feelings he brought out in her body. She thrusted against his body, clawing his back, pushing his hard butt so that he could be deeper inside of her. She wanted to be one with him; only him. Now, tomorrow and forever.
She opened her eyes and saw two burning emeralds looking into her flushed face. “I love you,” she whispered, her hands now running through his hair pulling at it, forcing his face closer to hers.
David thought she had never looked more beautiful; her face flushed from her orgasms, her eyes smoldering with passion and utter love, her hair tousled and messy with that just fucked look. He smiled down at her watching her eyes turn wild as she came for the third time. “I love you too, baby. Let go. Come for me.” David moaned as he finally let go himself – coming with such force he saw stars behind his closed eyes. “Oh God, Maddie!!” he cried out.
They lay entangled together as their minds and bodies rebooted. Finally, David opened his eyes. “Hey Blondie Blonde? You okay?” he asked tenderly.
Maddie nodded; her head was resting on his damp chest. “Better than okay,” she told him happily. She raised her head to look at David, and she smiled when she saw the joy in his beautiful eyes. She loved the way his eyes shone when he was happy. What she didn’t realize was that the same joyous expression was mirrored in her own eyes as she gazed up at him. “I love you, David Addison,” she declared solemnly and without hesitation.
David pulled her up so that their mouths were almost touching. “I love you too, Maddie Hayes.” He put his hand behind her head and held it there while he covered her mouth with kisses. Her kisses were like ambrosia. “So much,” he added in a hoarse voice.
Finally, he leaned back and just stared at her in wonder. Was he dreaming or was Maddie really in his bed with the not so clean sheets, looking happy and sated after their mind blowing love making?
“How did I get so lucky?” he whispered as his eyes burned into her soul.
Maddie looked at him with mock outrage. “Lucky to get me in bed, Mr. Addison?”
David quickly shook his head. “Lucky to have your love, Miss Hayes.”
“I think then I’m lucky too,” Maddie admitted quietly.
“Why didn't you tell me yesterday morning what was bothering you?” David asked after a while.
“I tried!” Maddie defended herself, and when she saw David raise a skeptical eyebrow she shrugged. “Well, I suppose it just came out wrong somehow... and you weren't exactly helpful.”
“Oh.” David gave her a sheepish look. “I guess we're both idiots and need to get used to all this...” He sighed and tightened his embrace, and she snuggled up even closer, looking at him lovingly, happily. “Let's just forget we wasted two days already we could have put to better use by...” he paused and licked his lips, “getting used to this.”
Maddie felt the now familiar heat spread in her belly and quickly run all over her body, and she brought her mouth close to his and whispered: “Let's make up for that lost time... over and over.”
And they did.
