It took a few moments before the meaning of Sam's words sank in, then Maddie and David both blurted out at the same time: “What?!”
“You do know the baby could be mine.” Sam’s eyes glinted with spite, his lips still curved in that self-satisfied smile.
“Not possible.” David told Sam staring him down with green icicles; Maddie was too shocked to utter a single word, her head was spinning.
“Oh yes, quite possible.” Sam contradicted and winked as he strode away.
David was about to go after him, but Maddie pulled him back by his arm. He shook her off, he was seeing red. Maddie stood firmly in front of him, “You will NOT give him the satisfaction of making a scene in my parents’ house,” she said through gritted teeth. “Let him go. He’s an ass.”
Everyone was talking and laughing with Virginia and Alex and knew nothing about the drama being played out in their midst, and Maddie intended to keep it that way. She had no plans to ruin her parents’ party or jovial mood. To hell with Sam, but suddenly a bolt of fear landed in her belly. The possibility had never crossed her mind, not once, but... could it really be his? How far along was she exactly?
David mouthed those questions to her just as she was thinking them, but what could she tell him but the truth. She shook her head. “I doubt the baby is his, David... but I suppose there is that possibility.”
“I thought you only slept with him that one time?” David couldn’t disguise the hurt and fear in his voice.
“I did, David,” she confirmed, “but really, it only takes one time.” she snapped, then she was instantly ashamed and covered her eyes with her hand for one moment. “Sorry I didn’t mean to snap at you.”
David pulled her hand away from her face. “It doesn’t matter anyway. C'mere.” He pulled her in his arms and buried his face in her hair. “The Bean is mine, do you hear me?” he muttered under his breath, so that only Maddie could hear him. ”And so are you. And nothing and no one could ever change that.”
For a quick moment, she pressed her body into his, as if she was looking for comfort and shelter, and nodded wordlessly. David's spontaneous reaction to Sam's nastiness meant the world to her, and she felt already a little better, but only a little. Because the possibility remained...
Before they could discuss the question of the baby’s paternity any further, they were surrounded by well-wishers. Maddie saw Sam watching her from across the room with a snide smile on his face and she felt sick. She would call her doctor tomorrow; she had to know the truth. Even though she wasn’t sure she believed and hardly ever prayed, she sent a silent plea to God as she turned to mingle with her friends.
After a few moments, she found herself embraced by her father's right arm, pulling her tightly to him, and his other arm went around David's shoulders.
“Maddie, David – I'm sorry...” he apologized ruefully, “I know I shouldn't have blurted out the news without asking your permission first, but I just couldn't resist...”
David was the first to speak. “It's okay, sir,” he quickly assured and gave Alex a reassuring smile; only Maddie could see it didn't reach his eyes. “We really don't mind, right, Maddie?”
“Of course not,” Maddie nodded, thankful that David was keeping his confident face on and didn't let her father or anybody else see that something was wrong. Well, then she could and would do the same. “It's fine, daddy, really. You just surprised us, that's all.”
“You surprised me too, darling!” came Virginia's firm voice from behind, and the three of them turned around. “Maddie, David, I had no idea...”
“They are fine with it,” Alex said a little sheepishly and raised his hands as in defense.
“Of course that's what they would say,” Virginia replied severely. “But...”
“No, mom, please,” Maddie interrupted and took her mother's hands in hers. “It's okay, really.”
Virginia sent a questioning look in David's direction, and he threw her his most dazzling smile and nodded. “Don't worry, Virginia,” he soothed and kissed her cheek, “we're happy that you are happy, and thanks again for welcoming me so generously into your family.”
“Oh, David!” Virginia hugged him, and Alex patted his back.
“Well, you're alright, young man,” he grumbled.
Sam Crawford was watching the scene from across the room, his lips pressed together, swallowing down his envy.

When the party was finally over and they had said their goodbyes to everyone, Maddie and David took a cab back to their hotel; during the ride, they didn't talk but sat very close to each other, David had his arm around Maddie's waist, and she was resting her head on his shoulder. The silence between them was not an uncomfortable one, but it was a little troubled; both knew exactly what the other one was worrying about; or so they thought.
David was fuming inside and wanted to kill Sam. I'll rip that rat bastard's head off he thought furiously. Visiting rights?! This is my kid, ours – mine and Maddie’s, whatever gene pool it comes from, and you'll never ever get your filthy mitts anywhere near my family, Luke fucking Skywalker. How dare you upset my woman like that... Without even realizing it, David tightened his protective embrace around Maddie, when an alarming thought hit him, and his eyes popped open. Oh shit, Maddie! She must be out of her mind, that worrying can't be any good for her. Oh God, I bet she's making up the wildest scenarios in her crazy blonde noggin', I bet she's questioning whether I'd really be game if...
Maddie was staring out of the cab's window into the black night and wished they had never come to Chicago this weekend, but she know that was silly. The problem – if there even was any, which was by no means certain – would have presented itself sooner or later, as soon as Sam would have gotten wind of her pregnancy...
Oh God, if the baby is Sam's... why did I ever sleep with him?! Damn David for making an idiot of himself that evening, if he hadn't acted like a jerk, I would never... Maddie bit her lip as if she had said that out loud and threw David a quick sideways glance; he didn't notice it since he was wrapped up in his own thoughts. No, I have to stop these thoughts; they are leading nowhere. But if the baby is Sam's... David said the Bean is his, but what did he mean? Did he mean to say he was sure the baby is his, or did he mean that even if it wasn't his, to him it would be his anyway? Maybe both. Oh, but how could he be happy raising a child that isn't his? What will happen if the child looks exactly like Sam? I can't...
“Don't even think about it,” David said quietly beside her, and Maddie almost jumped a little and looked at him with wide eyes.
“What?”
David put his left index finger under her chin and tilted her head slightly up to him, giving her an intense look from his hypnotizing eyes. “I know what you were thinking,” he told her slowly and the faintest smile tugged at the corners of his perfect mouth. “You’re wrong.”
The cab pulled up to the curb in front of their hotel, and David paid the driver. They walked into the hotel and retrieved their key at the reception, still not talking, but they went to the elevator, Maddie reached for David's hand and squeezed it. He squeezed back.
As soon as they closed their door behind them, Maddie threw her purse on the bed and whirled around, raising her hands in despair. “David, if the baby is really...”
“So what?” he interrupted, not wanting her to say the Spaceman's name. “That wouldn't change a thing!”
She looked at him in disbelief. “How can you say that?! It would change everything!”
“What do you think it would change, Maddie?” David inquired. “I love you, and I love the Bean!”
His stare seemed to pierce her. The emotions in his intense green eyes were too much for her; Maddie had to look away. “Yes, that's what you say now,” she murmured desperately.
David took her gently by the shoulders and turned her around. “Maddie, listen to me,” he said softly, and slowly, she tilted her head back a little and looked at him. He saw the despondence and worry in her beautiful face and wanted nothing more than to make it go away. “I love you, and nothing can change that. Believe me, I wish nothing more than that the Bean is coming from my gene pool – and I'm sure it is – but being a father means more than just hitting pay dirt once, and as far as I'm concerned I am the father of the Bean, period.” He looked her deeply in the eyes and added: “I have made a commitment not only to you, but also to us as a family, understand?”
David meant every word of it; of course things would be to 100 % perfect if that baby was his, but to him, in his mind and his heart it already was his, and nothing would ever change that for him. Besides, deep down in his heart he knew the Bean was all his.
Maddie pressed her lips together and nodded. David brushed a lock of hair from her face and insisted: “I want to hear you say it, babe: this” – he put his left hand on her belly – “is our family.”
She was very touched and felt tears well up in her eyes; she put her small hand on his big one and allowed herself for one moment to enjoy the warmth of David's palm against her belly. She looked down at their joined hands and repeated his words in a small voice: “This is our family.”
He nodded and smiled. “That's my girl.”
Maddie sighed and wrapped her arms around his waist, resting her forehead against his chest, feeling better already. “But, you know – he would really have visiting rights, if...”
“He will be granted everything that he's entitled to – and nothing more,” David replied immediately.
“But that would mean...”
“A little inconvenience every once in a while, yes” David interrupted firmly, “but I know we'll be able to handle that.” Again, he looked deep into her eyes. “It will only be a problem if we allow it to affect us.”
“Okay,” she sighed again and added after a while: “I'll call Dr. Hill tomorrow morning first thing.”
David nodded. “Yes, you do that.” He kissed her temple. “But really, I'm not worried.” Truth be told, that wasn't entirely true, but reassurance was just the thing Maddie needed right now; she needed every ounce of his positive attitude, and she would get it.
She looked up at him. “Really?”
“Really,” he confirmed and winked at her then he went on in a deliberately light tone: “I mean – do the math, Blondie: one time versus about two thousand four hundred seventy-three times? Come on.”
They both knew that it wasn't that easy, but his words didn't fail to lighten the atmosphere at least a bit. Maddie smiled a little. “Odds are in our favor, I guess,” she whispered.
“The odds are always in our favor,” he replied. “When your dad announced our engagement – didn't you feel like we are the luckiest guys in the world? I know I did.”
She nodded, but it looked a little mechanical. “I did too,” she said tonelessly.
“And why should that change now?” David asked rhetorically and lifted her up in his arms, carried her over to the bed and kissed her long and tenderly. Then they made slow, sweet love until they both fell into an exhausted, but restless sleep, holding on to each other in search for comfort and security.
***
When David woke up the next morning, he found the bed beside him empty and Maddie pacing back and forth in the hotel room. He ruffled his hair and rubbed his eyes. A glance at the alarm clock showed him that it was shortly past seven.
“Maddie?” he murmured, his voice heavy with sleep, and she whirled around. “What are you doing?”
“Waiting,” she replied curtly.
“Waiting?” he echoed and yawned. “What for?”
“For Dr. Hill's office to open,” she snapped, “what else?”
“Okaaay,” he ruffled his hair. “Sorry, I'm not really awake yet.”
Maddie sighed. “No, I'm sorry, David. It's just...”
“It's okay, babe,” he interrupted and swung his long legs out of the bed. “When does the office open?”
“At nine.” she shook her head. “Seems like ages.”
David strolled over to her and took her in his arms. “I'll tell you what. Why don't you go into the bathroom and take a nice, long bubble bath while I order a lavish breakfast for us...”
“Really, David, I'm not hungry,” she objected.
“...which we will devour after you have spoken to Dr. Hill,” David finished.
She sighed again. “Maybe then I'll be even less hungry...”
He slapped her butt playfully. “Will you stop that now?!”
“How can you not be worried, David?” She snapped at him pulling out of his arms and resuming her pacing. She knew she was being waspish but she was in no more for jokes even from David. Didn’t he understand that if it was Sam’s baby it would have a far greater impact on their lives than he realized? Maddie knew that Sam would insist on joint custody with a generous visitation schedule of holidays and summers. Maddie also knew that Sam would never give up his rights as a parent and would have a say in all the important decisions of the child’s life. Maddie was feeling sick as she thought about graduations, birthdays and other important events that would be marred if not completely ruined by Sam’s appearance.
“Who says I'm not?” David replied patiently. “But I told you, whatever will be – we'll handle it.”
She waved him off. “Yeah, yeah, I know – que sera sera. That's not helpful, David.” She knew she was being unfair, especially after what David had told her the evening before, but she just couldn't help it, she was so upset.
David saw that Maddie was near the edge but he didn’t know what to do to comfort her. “Maddie, you have to calm down. It’s not good for you or the Bean.”
Maddie just threw David a dirty look and continued her pacing. Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore. She picked up the phone and dialed Dr. Hill’s office and was flabbergasted when the doctor answered the phone on the third ring. For a second Maddie thought she was dreaming. She croaked out a greeting when the doctor said hello.
“Dr. Hill!” Maddie cried. “Thank God it’s you! It’s Maddie. Maddie Hayes.”
The doctor heard the panic in Maddie’s voice and thought there was something wrong with the baby. “Calm down, Maddie and tell me what’s wrong.” Dr. Hill’s voice was soothing and comforting.
“Doctor, I need to ask you a question,” she blurted out.
Dr. Hill was a bit confused. “A question?”
Maddie nodded although the doctor couldn’t see her. “Yes Dr. Hill.” Maddie swallowed hard. “Can you possibly tell me exactly how many weeks far along I am in my pregnancy?”
Dr. Hill was wise enough not to inquire the reason for her question. “Hold on. Let me get your chart.”
Maddie’s hand was clenched so tightly around the phone receiver it was almost white. “Thank you,” was all she could force out as she waited.
David was praying that the news would be in their favor. He wasn’t stupid and knew how great the impact would be on their lives if the baby was Sam’s. He threw Maddie a smile of reassurance but he could tell she was miles away. He walked over to her and pulled her in his arms. This time she didn’t pull away; she leaned into him as if she was holding on to a branch trying to keep afloat in dangerous waters.
What seemed like an eternity but was maybe 5 minutes the doctor came back on the line. When Maddie heard the doctor pick up the phone she felt her heart practically jumping out of her chest. Please… she prayed silently.
Maddie heard the doctor flipping pages. “Well, let’s see. Okay. You are exactly 12 and a half weeks pregnant Maddie.” The doctor cleared his throat. “I hope that is good news.”
Maddie’s heart rate returned to normal and a smile spread over her face. “Oh yes, doctor!” she exclaimed. “This is wonderful news! Thank you so much.”
David was overjoyed as he saw the joy on Maddie’s face when he turned her around to look at him. “Yabba dabba do!” he laughed as he swung her around until she was laughing along with him. “Told ya!”
“David! Put me down!” Maddie squealed happily, “I’m getting dizzy!” Her face was luminous with the joy she felt in her heart. There had to be a God, she was slowly beginning to admit to herself and feel in her soul, and He was a good God.
David stopped twirling and lowered her down on to the bed. His eyes were piercing green as a brilliant smile lit up his face, his hand caressed her belly slowly. “I told you the Bean is mine, Maddie.” David lowered his head and kissed Maddie’s belly lovingly. “I could feel it.” He shook his head, “I mean surely my super sperm wouldn’t have been beat out by that wussy space man sperm.”
Maddie couldn’t help but laugh along with David. “Super sperm?” She shook her head. “Yes you’ve mentioned it once or twice.”
David nodded as he began to peel off Maddie’s nightgown, “yeah they even wear little capes.”
“Do tell.” Maddie was busy pulling off David’s boxers. She wanted to feel him inside of her.
“I love you, Bean’s mommy.” David whispered, his eyes glittered and shone with all of the joy and passion that was inside of him.
Maddie felt tears behind her eyes when she saw all the feeling in David’s eyes staring into her heart and soul, “I love you too, Bean’s daddy.” She moved under him, “Forever and ever. Now make love to me David. Please.”
A lopsided smug grin spread up the side of David’s face. “At your service, honey. I’m gonna fuck you til you scream my name as loud as you can.” And he did over and over all afternoon.
Maddie and David spent the day in bed, talking about the future, eating a lavish breakfast and making love. Finally at a little after 5 Maddie looked at the clock and jumped out of bed waking David out of his catnap. “Yo babe, what’s the matter?” David mumbled sleepily.
“Remember, we are meeting my parents for dinner tonight?” Maddie headed toward the bathroom. “We said we’d meet them at the hotel dining room at six, David!”
David looked at the clock as he ran his hair through his just fucked hair. “We have plenty of time,” he stood up and stretched his long body then looked at Maddie with a gleam in his eyes. Damn, he had just spent the better part of the day making love to Maddie, but seeing her standing there naked with her hair all messy and not a lick of make up on her gorgeous face made him want her all over again. He felt his dick rise as she looked at her.
Maddie saw David’s excitement and even though she had been thoroughly fucked for most of the day she still felt her loins dampen at the sight of David standing there with a massive boner staring at her with smoldering eyes. She licked her lips as she nodded her head toward the bathroom. “Well, then you better join me in the shower to save time.” Maddie turned and shook her curvy butt at David who needed no further invitation.

“Damn,” Maddie hissed when they were hurrying through the restaurant towards the cozy table where her parents were already waiting for them. “You know how I hate being late, you know it, and still...”
“Hey, is it my fault you can't say no?” David replied smugly and suppressed an amused chuckle.
“Oh, shut up, Addison!” Maddie pressed through clenched teeth, but when she saw the smiling faces of her parents watching them approach, her anger disappeared immediately. After all, this was a more than happy day.
When they reached the table where Maddie's parents were sitting, heartfelt greetings, hugs and kisses were exchanged; nobody commented on their lateness. The four of them took their seats, and Alex took an open bottle of champagne out of the cooler standing beside their table.
“I took the liberty to order champagne already,” he announced and poured three glasses, “so we can celebrate in private today.” He handed a glass to his wife and to David and told his daughter: “For you water, of course.” He poured iced water into a champagne flute and handed it to her.
“Thanks, daddy,” Maddie beamed, and all four raised their glasses.
“To you both,” Alex toasted, “and to our grandchild. You are making us very happy.”
They clinked their glasses, and Alex cleared his throat. “Maddie, your mother and I have been putting money away for this special day.” He laughed. “but as the years passed by and you were still single I was thinking that soon we would use the money for a trip around the world,” Maddie and David smiled, “but now that this young man has caught your heart your wedding will be our gift to you.”
“Oh daddy!” Maddie exclaimed. “You don’t have to…”
“Sir, this is too much,” David protested, “Maddie and I…”
“I know we don’t have to,” Virginia smiled at Maddie then turned to David, “David, we’ve been saving since Maddie was a girl.” Virginia smiled at her son-in-law to be.
“Paying for our baby’s perfect day will make us very happy. So please just accept our gift.”
Alex was nodding along with what his wife was saying. “Yes, and it is the tradition for the father of the bride to foot the bill for his little girl’s wedding.” He reached across the table and took Maddie’s hand.
She was smiling through her tears. “I love you, daddy.” She leaned over to kiss her dad then turned to her mom. “Thanks both of you.”
David saw that they didn't mean to be condescending towards him and probably would have done the same if Maddie had been engaged to some wealthy upper class guy, so he nodded. “Yes, thank you. This is more than generous.” He grinned. “Just getting your blessings for me to marry your lovely daughter is a gift in itself.”
“Well said, Addison.” Maddie whispered to David and squeezed his hand under the table.
The two couples began to discuss plans for the upcoming nuptials happily.
***
“You look absolutely wonderful, Maddie,” Virginia said and smiled at her daughter in the mirror; after their lavish meal, the two women had taken a trip to the powder room to freshen up a bit, but also to have a little mother-daughter-chat in privacy.
Maddie smiled back. “Thanks, mom. I feel wonderful.”
The elder woman put her hands on her shoulders from behind and squeezed them lovingly. “You know, you made your father and me so happy. Seeing you like that...” – she smoothed out Maddie's hair in an absentminded tender gesture like she had done when she was a little girl – “...is like a dream come true.”
“Oh, mom...” Maddie put her hands on her mother's hands. “Sometimes it seems like a dream to me, too,” she told her, “and I think I might wake up any minute.”
Virginia smiled. “You know,” she said, “when your father and me came to L.A. last year, I knew that you and David would end up together.”
Maddie laughed and rummaged in her purse. “But mom,” she protested, “not even we knew that back then...”
“Ah,” her mother waved her off, “you know I have a sixth sense for these things. When I said something about it to your father, he told me I was hallucinating.” She giggled in a way that made her look ten years younger than she actually was. “Although, not much of a sixth sense was needed.”
Maddie blushed a little and remained silent. Yes, maybe her mother was right, and the signs had been obvious to everybody else but to them. Or, what was more likely, they both had chosen to ignore the signs, for whatever reasons. She shrugged those thoughts off; those stupid fears lay in the past. She raised her lipstick to her mouth to put a fresh coat on, then interrupted her own move, looked at her mother in the mirror and blurted out: “Oh mom, I love him so much.”
Virginia spritzed a little cologne on her wrists. “I love him too,” she replied, and when Maddie raised a questioning, amused eyebrow she added: “I have never seen you so radiant and happy since you were a girl, Maddie. What more can a mother want from a son-in-law?”
Maddie beamed again, happy to hear these appreciative words about the man she was in love with from her mother. “Sometimes he drives me crazy,” she said.
Virginia rolled her eyes in a conspiratorial way and nudged her softly. “Don't they all?”
***
As soon as Virginia and Maddie were out of sight, Alex cleared his throat and turned to David who was shifting a little uncomfortably on his seat, expecting some interrogation from his future father-in-law, maybe an admonition for having waited too long before he proposed, but when Alex spoke, he surprised him by apologizing again for blurting out the baby news at the party without having asked for the couple's permission before; obviously, Virginia had given him quite a hard time about that.
“Really, Mr. Hayes, there's absolutely no problem with that,” David assured him and relaxed a little.
Alex cleared his throat again, obviously feeling a little uncomfortable himself. “Well, I'm glad to hear that,” he replied, “although, I noticed afterward that you and Maddie seemed to be a little upset...”
Damn, they had been under real close observation! David shook his head. “Oh no, don't worry, sir,” he played it down and then couldn't resist to add: “Well, to be honest, we just received some irritating reactions to the news from some... guest.”
Alex frowned, his face a thundercloud. “Which guest?” he asked in a menacing voice, and David regretted already having mentioned it; he didn't want to stir anything up, and Maddie surely wouldn't approve of him mentioning this to her father. Damn, his mouth had been faster than his brain again.
“Oh, it was really nothing,” he backpedaled nervously.
“Was it Crawford?” Alex asked, much to his surprise, and when he saw the open-mouthed expression on David's face he knew he had been right. He grumbled: “You don't have to say anything. I never liked that guy,” he added darkly.
A huge grin wanted to spread on David's face, but he controlled himself. “Really?” he asked and tried not to sound too eager.
“You know, we have been friends with the Crawfords for over forty years; they used to be our neighbors,” Alex explained. “So, of course we invited them, and therefore we had to invite their son, too, but I really thought he'd have the decency to stay away. Everybody knew we were expecting our daughter and her boyfriend.”
David cleared his throat, and although he was thrilled to hear how little Maddie's father seemed to think of the Spaceman, he didn't want Alex to get too upset over it. “Really, it wasn't a big deal...”
“Well, that's very generous of you to say,” Alex stated and took the last sip of his champagne. “I'm sure you know that Maddie dated him many years ago...”
David turned his own empty glass in his hands. “Yes...”
Alex lowered his voice in an almost conspiratorial way and said: “I wasn't happy about it.” He shrugged. “I don't trust a man who looks too flawless on the outside.” David's mouth curved into his lopsided smile, and Alex added honestly: “I'm far from perfect myself.”
“Me too,” David replied quickly.
Alex raised an ironic eyebrow which reminded David very much of Maddie and said: “I know...”
“Mr. Hayes,” David said hastily, “let me say again that I'm really happy you and your wife accepted me at Maddie's side and that I fully intend to make her happy for the rest of my life.”
Alex nodded. “You'd better,” he made clear; although he said it half-jokingly, it was obvious that he was dead serious. And then, after a few moments, he added: “Alex.”
David raised a questioning eyebrow. “Excuse me?”
“My name is Alex,” Maddie's father grumbled.
***
“Oh dear,” Maddie whispered to her mother as they were walking back through the restaurant to the table where their men were waiting for them, “I really hope daddy didn't give David a hard time...”
Virginia laughed. “You know, I was going to try to keep your father in line about that, but I found it wasn't even necessary...”
Maddie stopped dead in her tracks and turned around to face her mother. “What do you mean, mom?”
Virginia shrugged elegantly. “Your father seems to like David.”
Maddie smiled. “Yes, I think so too.” She frowned and motioned to Alex and David. “But what are they talking about? Dad looks grumpy.” She narrowed her eyes. “David looks guilty.”
Her mother swatted her arm playfully. “Now will you stop that, Madolyn?” she chastised. “You and your father really are alike, always thinking the worst.”
“Mostly I'm right,” Maddie grumbled as they approached the table, still frowning.
They came just in time to hear Alex growl: “That's not the way we handle things here, young man!” David didn't reply, but his lips were pursed in a stubborn manner. Maddie's face fell.
“Darling, what's wrong?” Virginia inquired firmly and put a hand on her husband’s shoulder.
Maddie punched David on the arm. “What did you do?!” she snapped.
“Ouch!” David rubbed his arm. “I just...”
Alex shot his index finger at David like it was a bullet, in a very Hayes-like way, and told him severely: “When I ask my daughter and her fiancé to join us for dinner I don't approve of the bill being taken care of.” He narrowed his eyes. “The next time I won't let you get away with it!” He punched David's other arm.
“Are you two through hitting me?!” David complained in a joking way, and Maddie threw him an apologetic look.
Virginia laughed and folded her arms, nodding to her daughter. “Looks like you're not always right...”
David took Virginia's hand and pulled her arm through his. “I tell her that all the time, but does she ever listen?”
Virginia laughed again and patted David's arm while walking towards the exit with him. “They never do, David... you better get used to it.”
Alex frowned a little, and Maddie rolled her eyes.
***
The next morning, Maddie got off the phone with her old friend Pete who just happened to be the VP of Public Relations for the Chicago Cubs. David had mentioned in passing that he wished he could see the Phillies who were playing the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Maddie had called Pete before they left LA to inquire if he could get tickets for the game on Friday afternoon. He told Maddie to call him Friday morning, but he was almost positive he could get his old friend a couple of seats and sure enough he came through.
Maddie couldn’t wait to tell David the news. She looked over at him still sleeping like the dead and a smile covered her face. She loved to watch him while he slept; he looked so much like a bad little boy with his tousled hair sticking up all over his head, and he always had a smirk on his face, even in a deep sleep. But then she looked at his naked body barely covered by the thin sheet and knew he was no boy but all man. She felt the familiar arousal as her eyes ran over David’s muscular body. She couldn’t help herself as she sat on the edge of the bed; she had to touch him. Her fingers followed the muscles in his shoulders… down to his chest... over his flat belly and traced the treasure trail until they landed on gold. And as usual, even before David was awake his dick was fully conscious. Maddie smiled to herself and bent her head to whisper in his ear. “David, wake up. I have a wonderful surprise.”
In a flash, David surprised Maddie and had her under him pressed between the mattress and his hard body. “And I got a surprise for you, babe,” David pushed his hardness against her, “a big surprise.”
Maddie giggled as her hands caressed his tight butt. “That’s no longer a surprise.”
“Really, well I still have some tricks up my sleeve or anyways down my pants that will surprise you realll good.” he purred into her ear causing Maddie to shiver with anticipation.
“Really?” She teased as she guided him into her throbbing core, “I’m all ears.”
David pushed himself deeply into her and chuckled: “Not all ears.”
After a heated round of lovemaking, David and Maddie were wrapped together in a haze of happiness and sexual satisfaction. After a few minutes, Maddie pulled out of David’s arms and sat up in bed. “I really do have a surprise for you David!” she told him excitedly.
David put his hands behind his head and smiled up at her. “Do tell.”
Maddie nodded. “My friend Pete works for the Cubs and I asked him for tickets…”
Before Maddie was finished David jerked up into a sitting position with a look of hope on his face. “You got tickets to today’s game?”
Maddie nodded again and laughed as David jumped off the bed completely nude and almost jumped for joy. “This is great news!” he almost chanted. “Better than great. Great great! You know how long it’s been since I’ve been at a Phillies’ game, right?!” He sat back down on the bed and grabbed her in his arms. “Thanks Maddie. I love you honey!!”
If David could love Maddie anymore it was when he saw the seats they had for the game; first row right next to the Phillies’ dugout. David was in heaven as he conversed with his favorite players before the game began. And his paradise was complete when the players told him to call their manager the next time they were in LA and they’d score him tickets for a game against the Dodgers.
After the game which the Phillies won by a score of 4-3, David and Maddie decided to head back to their hotel; neither was hungry since they just had their fill of hotdogs, fries and ice cream at the game. David grabbed Maddie’s hand and squeezed it tightly on the ride back to their hotel. “Thanks, babe,” he told her with love, “I know you’re really not much of a baseball fan, but you looked like you were having a good time.”
Maddie squeezed David’s hand back. “You dopey man, don’t you realize that as long as I’m with you I am having a good time?” She bent over and kissed his lips, “always.”
David was touched by Maddie’s words. How did he get so lucky?
***
The wedding of Maddie's cousin Joan, a charming brunette, about ten years younger than Maddie, took place Saturday, and it was a very beautiful and touching ceremony. Maddie and David secretly both blinked back a few tears when they realized that the next wedding they would be attending would be theirs. Maddie's parents were thinking the same, and Virginia was weepier than she usually was at any wedding.
About one hundred and fifty people were attending the reception; David was impressed how big the Hayes family seemed to be, but Maddie told him that many of those people were not family, but friends or acquaintances and business partners of the bride's and bridegroom's parents. Although he was feeling comfortable at the event, he still was relieved that they had planned to hold their own wedding much smaller and more intimate: just the closest family and friends were to be there. Maddie watched him socialize easily and was secretly proud of him.
Later, after a lavish meal, David and Maddie paid a visit to the newlyweds on the dais.
“I'm so glad you two could make it,” Maddie's cousin Joan told them with a smile. “We all had been looking forward to see you at Megan's wedding last year...”
They spoke a short term about Megan who was unable to attend the wedding because she was on bed rest and due to deliver twins at any moment. Maddie had been able to side step the question a few times at her parents' party.
“I know,” she said, “I...” – she put her hand on David's – “we had planned to come, but unfortunately, we were held up at the very last moment by some really urgent case...” Joan and her newly wedded husband nodded in an understanding way, and Maddie went on: “First, it was a question of life and death for the client – it really was – and second, truth be told, at that time the agency wasn't doing that well yet, so we simply couldn't afford to turn any client down.” Maddie found herself talking fast and hastily and felt it was sounding like a feeble excuse – which, partly, it was. She turned to David for help. “Isn't that right, David?” she urged.
David's lips curled into an amused smile; he enjoyed watching her squirm, because Maddie never felt comfortable when she was lying. In fact, she hated it – it was against her conviction, but now she was doing exactly that; or, at least, she was masquerading the truth a bit in her favor by omitting the facts that their client had been already dead so that they could have attended Megan's wedding very easily, if she hadn't found any excuse not to go. Plus, she had also insisted in paying back the check the client had already given them, so the financial reason wasn't valid either.
“David?!” she urged again, and this time he slowly nodded.
“Yes, that's right, of course.” He pulled Maddie's hand to his lips and lightly kissed it. “We would have loved to attend your other cousin's wedding, we had both been looking so forward to it, but alas...” he sighed deeply, and Maddie pressed her lips together and gave him a warning look only he could identify; it amused him even more.
He had known they would have lots of fun on this trip.

“You didn't have to overdo it,” Maddie hissed into his ear a few minutes later, when they were swaying on the dance floor.
“Overdo what?” David asked innocently. “I don't recall you complaining about me overdoing anything lately.”
“Oh, shut up!” She stepped on his foot deliberately, and he chuckled.
Suddenly, David stopped dead in his tracks in the middle of the dance floor and made a movement with his head in the other direction of the room, and Maddie turned to see what he was referring to. “Did you know he would be attending?” he asked.
Maddie saw the silhouette of Sam Crawford from behind standing there, all by himself, sipping champagne, and her body went all rigid. Quickly she threw a look at David, but his facial expression wasn't reproachful or accusing; he just looked curious.
“I had no idea,” she said slowly, “but I'm not really surprised.” When David threw her a questioning glance, she added: “His parents are friends with mine, and I guess with Joan's, too.”
“Oh,” David replied thoughtfully.
Maddie scrutinized him closely. “What does 'Oh' mean?” she asked suspiciously. “David Addison, I know that look. What are you up to? You're not going to make a scene at my cousin's wedding reception!” she warned.
David raised a sarcastic eyebrow. “What's it always with you telling me to make no scene?! I'm not the one making scenes in public.”
She elbowed him roughly. “Very funny. You know what I mean!”
“Maddie, I'm not up to anything,” David assured and added solemnly: “But... we have to talk to him.”
“Talk to him?” she echoed. “Why?”
He looked at her in fake indignation. “Because the man has a right to know, of course!”
“Know what?” she inquired suspiciously.
David fixed his stare again on Sam, a satisfied smirk slowly creeping over his face. “The right to know that he has no fucking rights at all,” he said slowly.
Maddie's eyes followed his gaze, and slowly she nodded too. “Damn, you are right,” she confirmed, much to David's surprise and slid her left arm through his right. “Come on, let's talk to him.”
David was pleasantly surprised but held her back for a moment when she immediately wanted to stroll over to Sam. “I'll do the talking,” he declared in a voice that permitted no objection.
Maddie frowned and turned to face him again. “Why's that?”
David wasn't looking at her; his eyes were fixed on Sam's back, the green was ice cold and burning with a quiet rage at the same time. “Because that man claimed what's mine.”
Something in his voice made her shiver, and to her own surprise, without further arguing Maddie just answered: “Okay.”
Without another word, David made his way through the crowd towards Sam, Maddie still hanging on to his arm, following him closely, almost glued to his side. As if on cue, when they had almost reached him, Sam turned around and raised an eyebrow in an almost mocking way.
David beamed. “Sammy!” he exclaimed and slapped his former rival's shoulder. “Long time no see!”
“Dave,” Sam replied jovially and with a just as fake smile, “Maddie... you look radiant!” he emphasized the word, and they both knew why; Maddie didn't even bother to smile.
“She does, doesn't she?” David replied smoothly and continued to smile into Sam's face. “So good to see you here since that saves us from wasting a dime to call you.”
Sam frowned. “Why would you call me?”
David shrugged. “To give you the good news,” he explained without really explaining anything.
Sam folded his arms, his whole composure smugness personified. Maddie started to feel nauseous just looking at him. “What better news could you give me that could top what I discovered the last time we met?” he asked, obviously very satisfied with himself, and threw Maddie's belly a very meaningful glance.
David started to see red when he saw this. Maddie noticed it and tightened her grip on David's arm; his muscles underneath the tux felt like steel ropes. But he just leaned a little forward and told Sam in a very quiet voice: “Wipe that smug Mark Harmon grin off your face, pal. Congratulations, Buck Rogers, you don't have to worry about paying child support.”
Sam frowned. “What are you saying?” he snapped, but at the same time his body became rigid. He wasn't exactly backing off, but his body language was clear: he was trying to put some safety distance between himself and David, Maddie noticed with a small satisfied smile curling her lips.
“We have confirmation from the doc,” David explained. “Maddie is just a little over twelve weeks along.” Now it was his turn to smirk at the other man. “The Enterprise had long taken off by then.”
Sam narrowed his eyes. “I'm not stupid. I surely won't take your word for that.”
David shrugged nonchalantly. “You can't change the facts.”
“Well, I can verify them,” Sam hissed and added disdainfully: “If you know what that word means.” Maddie drew in a sharp breath, longing to claw Sam's eyes out, but David remained absolutely calm and unaltered, all his muscles still tense and rigid though. “There are such things as paternity tests.”
David had enough. He smiled and put his hand on Sam's shoulder, a gesture that looked like a jovial greeting between two old friends but he squeezed with a surprising strength that made Sam painfully cringe a little. “If you know what's good for you, Skywalker, you better forget that very quickly,” he told him in a quiet but threatening voice. “Such a test wouldn't come up with anything different than what I've just told you.” He leaned forward again and murmured into his ear: “And if you do anything to upset my family I'm gonna send you on a mission to Mars with a one-way ticket.”
Sam snorted but automatically took one step back. “You've tried that once and failed miserably ,” he reminded him.
David tilted his head a little to the left. “But now you're threatening to hurt the people I love,” he pointed out, his voice as sharp as a Japanese knife. Maddie threw him a secret sideways glance; his jawline was like chiseled stone, and his eyes green steel. If she hadn't known David so well, she would have been afraid of him. To see how vehemently he fought for her and their child's welfare was very appealing to her.
Finally, Sam murmured: “You're not worth it. Neither of you.” Then he turned around without another word and walked away with his head held high although inside he was fuming.
David stood there, watching him walk away, his whole body still rigid, as if he wanted to make sure that he really disappeared. Maddie stood on her toes and tugged at his sleeve, whispering into his ear: “David...”
“Maddie,” he replied automatically, his eyes still fixed on Sam's back.
“Addison!”
He snapped out of his state when he heard Maddie's urging voice again, and he turned to her. “Sorry, baby, what did you say?”
She drew a deep breath. “I'll probably regret that I'm saying this, but...” she paused for effect and smiled suggestively at him. “You're incredibly hot when you're angry.”
Maddie felt her insides melt and her panties liquefy as she looked into David’s emerald green eyes. She found him indeed incredibly hot and she hated to admit how extra hot he was when he was angry; so intense with his jaw tightened and his eyes dark – she moved closer in his arms. “David.”
“Maddie.” His anger at that pompous ass was slowly dissolving especially since he was the one holding Maddie in his arms, and slowly, a satisfied smile crept over his face as the meaning of Maddie's words sunk in. He felt her hot breath in his ear and instantly hardened.
“Imagine if we had come to the wedding last year and were dancing close like this.” Maddie’s voice was laced with desire. “What would you have done?”
David ran his hand ran up and down her shapely back, lightly touching her curvy butt, “well I would have tried to kiss you of course.” David bent his head until his lips were almost, but not quite, against hers, “just one kiss.” He kissed her lips from one side of her mouth to the other lightly running his tongue over them slowly until he heard her emit a light moan. “You like that, baby?” he moaned into her mouth. “Your lips taste like honey.” His tongue snaked into her mouth slowly at first, then when he felt her tongue dancing along with his he became more passionate; almost devouring her with deep passionate kisses that were making her legs weak.
Maddie held tightly on to David’s shoulders as he kissed her thoroughly grinding his rock hard dick against her throbbing loins. “David, people are watching us.” She told him coming up for air and gently pushing him away for decency’s sake – although she secretly regretted it; the way David had talked to Sam had impressed her, and he sound of his voice, the sight of his face and the feeling of his hard muscles underneath his tux sleeve had turned her on. In short words, she was horny and wanted him badly, now.
David raised his head and looked around. A few people were smiling in their direction. “Well baby we’re going to have to be good, I guess.” He smirked down at her seeing that look in her eyes and knowing being good was not on her mind. He laughed to himself. She really had become a sex maniac and he loved it!
“I guess.” Maddie’s voice was small and girlish in her disappointment but then she had an idea. She smiled up at David and that look in her eyes made his dick twitch. “Let’s just dance.” She moved her soft body against his hard one and wrapped her arms around his neck. “So David, you would have stopped with just a kiss. I’m disappointed, Addison.” She smirked at him with devilish blue eyes.
“Wellll,” David whispered, he looked around to make sure no one was watching as he danced Maddie across the room and into a dark, empty room across from the coatroom. He made sure no eyes were on them as he led Maddie into the room and closed the door behind them.
“David Addison!” Maddie cried with mock indignation, “what do you think you’re doing? Open that door at once!” She pretended to be outraged at his presumptuous behavior. This was fun.
“Now, now Maddie. Trust me, babe.” He pushed her up against the closed door and covered her mouth with his ravishing her with his tongue and lips until she was breathless. “I love kissing you.” He traced her lips with his tongue, then began the journey using his hot tongue as a paintbrush, he stopped at that spot and chuckled when he heard her gasp with pleasure. “Ya like that, huh?” His fingers moved over that spot. “This spot must be magic, babe,” he crooned as his tongue and lips continued their journey kissing her shoulders and pulling down the straps of her dress until her breasts were partly bared.
“No, David...” Maddie protested feebly, “someone might come.”
“Oh somebody’s gonna come alright.” He chuckled again as his hand crawled up the slit in dress until his fingers brushed wet silk. “Oh yeah, come real good.” he purred as his mouth covered her hard nipple teasing it with his red hot tongue. Maddie made a helpless mewing sound deep in her throat and let her head fall back.
“Yeah, babe, I think I would have had you in here just like this last year.” David ground his hard dick against her as his hand pulled up the hem of her dress until the only thing separated them was cotton and silk. He moved against her harder, thrusting his massive boner into her silk-covered center when he felt her legs part.
“Oh, David...” Maddie moaned, totally lost in his caresses. At the back of her head, a small voice was telling her they may be caught by a member of the staff or a wandering guest, but she just didn’t care. She wanted him inside of her and that was all that mattered. “Please…”
“Please what, baby?” David asked mockingly as he uncovered her breasts and holding them with both hands began to rain slow wet kisses over her aching mounds. “Such beautiful tits.” he whispered, his voice syrupy thick; just the sound of it made her juices flow. “Damn, Maddie. You are killing me here.” he told her as he felt her hand unzipping his pants and reaching in to stroke his boner with long hot fingers. “I want to fuck you, honey,” David purred as he stroked her sodden core with magic fingers. “You are so damn hot.”
Maddie played with David’s dick, stroking it until he was panting in her ear. “Ya like too?” She asked him, her voice husky with her arousal. Maddie felt David pulling down her panties, and suddenly the voice in her head gained the upper hand and told her this was going too far. “No, David. Someone may come in and catch us!” She sounded breathless.
David reached behind her locking the door. “No worries.” His two hands were busy playing under her dress, massaging her throbbing nub, making her hotbox an inferno. Automatically, her legs spread wider and her hips started to rotate rhythmically. She began to moan loudly. Oh, it felt too good, and with the door locked it was even safe... She couldn’t stop him now, and much less could she stop herself now. David’s hand began to pet her curvy butt, grabbing and squeezing it possessively, while the other one continued to stroke her between her legs, rhythm steadily increasing, until she couldn't take it any longer.
“Oh God,” she whimpered, pushing her loins forward into his firm hand, “oh please, David,” she begged, “I can't wait any longer... please, make me come...”
“But somebody might catch us.” David taunted with a smirk.
“Oh God, David... do it to me now!” Maddie pleaded guiding his dick between her legs and crossing her ankles across David’s legs to increase the friction. “Please!” she repeated, almost sobbing with need.
“Your wish is my demand!” David nudged her legs further apart with his knee, “You’re gonna get it good now, babe.” He pushed his dick into her sodden hotbox with one deep hard thrust, burying himself up to the hilt, “there baby. You love that, don’t you.”
“Oh yes, David!” Maddie moaned as she wrapped her arms around his muscular shoulders, her mouth was near his ear, “oh, I’m going to come soon.” She began to chant his name over and over as her orgasm neared. “Give it to me, harder!” she panted, and her words and the way she totally got lost in her desire spurred him on.
David covered her mouth with his to stifle her screams, it wouldn’t do to be caught with their pants down in front of her family. Even though it was Maddie who wanted it as much, or maybe even more than he did, he knew she would never forgive him. “Sshh baby,” he murmured into her mouth as he pushed his dick in and out of her throbbing core, moving it around the way she loved, “come for me. You know you love it.”
Maddie lost control as her orgasm erupted almost causing her to black out with its strength, she held on to David knowing that she would collapse in a heap at his feet if she dared let go of his shoulders. “Oh David, I love you.”
“I love you too, babe,” David gasped as he came with a force that nearly caused him to scream out his own pleasure. He instead devoured Maddie’s mouth with hot passionate kisses until the waves of pleasure abated and they both were trying to catch their breath.
Both froze when they heard the doorknob jiggle and a voice demanding to know who was in the room. Oh shit, was David’s thought as he heard Maddie’s gasp of outrage and shame. “You really did it now Addison!” she growled, barely able to breathe again yet.
“We did it,” he corrected her under his breath, “and as usual we did it great!” Quickly, he pulled up his zipper and buckled his belt again while Maddie hastily pulled down her dress and smoothed it out, painfully aware of the stickiness between her legs.
When he saw she was decent again, David reached again behind her to unlock the door which was opened immediately by one of the waiters who was giving them questioning looks.
“Sorry, buddy,” David apologized, “we needed just a little space away from the family... planning a secret surprise for the bride and groom.” He pushed a ten dollar bill in the waiter's hand and lowered his voice in a conspiratorial way. “Let's keep it secret.” He turned to Maddie who was standing there like a pillar of salt. “I think Joan will like the surprise, honey... what do you think?” he asked nonchalantly, an amused twinkle in his eyes.
The waiter looked at Maddie for a moment, and if he was suspecting anything, he surely didn't give any sign of it, shoved the money in his pocket and turned away with a little nod of his head. Maddie felt a red hot blush creep over her face and neck and clenched her fists. “You animal,” she hissed under her breath. “You just couldn't...”
David leaned a little forward and murmured in an ironic voice: “You are not going to make a scene at your cousin's reception, are you?” He winked at her. “And you were the one who couldn't keep her panties in place, Blondie!”
“You...!”
“What about Oh David, oh God, oh please, make me come, do it to me now, give it to me harder...” he took her hand and kissed it, and as they were already making their way out of that room again, she couldn't snatch it away or do anything else to satisfy her fury without catching the attention of someone.
“Shut up!” she snapped under her breath, knowing damn well that he was perfectly right, “just shut up!”
They had exited the side room just in the right moment to see the beautiful big wedding cake being cut, joined in with the applause and cheering and quickly made their way back to their seats at the big table.
“I'm really not sure if I have room for yet another dessert,” David whispered into her ear with a soft chuckle, and Maddie kicked his shin under the table in outrage.
“Oh well,” one of her aunts standing near them said, “wedding cake is not just another dessert, is it? It's tradition, and no matter how stuffed you are, you have to have some.”
David suppressed a laugh and just allowed a wide grin to split his face. “Oh, you're right of course,” he agreed, “and we'll definitely have some, right, honey?” He turned to Maddie with a devilish smirk her aunt couldn't see. “Although you felt really stuffed before, didn't you?”
Maddie desperately fought to keep her fury under control and clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms. “I think I can manage to have one bite,” she pressed through gritted teeth and blushed even further when she realized what she had just said. She wanted to disappear into a hole when she saw the mean twinkle in David's eyes. And fuck, he still looked hot!
“Aww,” her aunt enthusiastically clapped her chubby hands, “it's so sweet how your young man is concerned for your comfort, isn't it, Madolyn!”
Maddie's forced smile looked like a scary grimace, but her aunt hadn't seen her in years, and her sight wasn't the best anymore, so she didn't notice anything. “Yes, he's such a sweet and caring man, Aunt Josie,” Maddie said and told herself to just breathe in and breathe out without exploding.
A waitress put two plates in front of them, and David stroked Maddie's cheek. “There's your bite, baby,” he purred. “If we were at home with nobody to watch I would feed it right into your mouth myself!”
Maddie ran through the piece of cake with her fork, fantasizing she were spearing David, and her aunt laughed. “Oh, you are such lovebirds!”
Finally, the aunt turned back to her own table and David began to chat nonchalantly with Maddie’s cousins who were unaware of the banter between the couple. Maddie was silently fuming about David's provocative behavior, clearly aimed at embarrassing her. But then she told herself that nobody else realized David's teasing comments had a very dirty underlying meaning, and gradually, her fury subsided. Nevertheless, she was still a bit peeved at David who always knew how to push her buttons; but she couldn’t help watching him under the cover of her long lashes.
She loved how he fit right in with her cousins. Once again he was the life of the party as he regaled them with hilarious stories about their crazy cases. Maddie felt her insides melt as her eyes drank in how his lips moved as he spoke, how his hands were always in motion when he told a story, how his eyes and nose crinkled with glee when he laughed. She could feel the stickiness between her legs and that only fueled her damp problem. Thank God the wedding was almost over and she could once again get her hands on him. She hoped it was her pregnancy hormones that were making her so damn horny all the time, because it just wasn’t natural to be in a constant state of arousal – at least she had never experienced anything like that herself. But then again, she had never been with someone like David before, and she never had been in love like she was now. Finally David turned to her to add to a story he was telling about the case of the wife who hired them to guard her husband’s dead body. Maddie pulled herself together and joined in the discussion and laughter.
***
David yawned as the cab sped toward their hotel. He had had a great time at the wedding and was happy that most of Maddie’s family were down to earth, good people. He had met most of them already before at the Hayes' party, and he had felt comfortable. No one had treated him like he didn't belong there. Oh, and that he had had the possibility to grab Sam Crawford by his spaceballs and drag him back to Saturn had been the icing on the cake, of course. Not to mention the little adventure with Maddie... she had totally caught him off guard with her assault; never had he expected anything like that from her! Similar things had happened during their wild first month, he recalled, and every time that had led to Maddie being furious with him for making her lose control. This time it had been different – she had definitely been the one initiating their tryst. Of course, her being Maddie, that hadn't kept her from being furious at him; but he suspected she knew damn well that she was dead wrong to blame him here. He had seen her calm down, and he had noticed that soon after the wedding cake her eyes had started to shimmer with that glint again. More fun was to come. He lay his head back on the back of the seat and closed his eyes, replaying their heated encounter in his mind.
Maddie was a bit peeved that David seemed to be falling asleep on the car ride home and practically ignoring her when she was so horny for him. Well, she was sure she would get his attention back in a jiffy. She moved close to him so that she was almost in his lap. “David,” she whispered in his ear, threw her wrap over his lap and sneakily moved her hand over the bulge in his pants.
David’s eyes flew open. Damn this woman, she really was greedy, he laughed to himself. He knew her well enough of course to notice that she was hot for him again, but he hadn't expected her to be that bold. His hand reached down and caught her hand as it was unzipping his pants. “Now now young lady,” he mockingly admonished, “what will the driver think?”
Maddie spread the wrap over her lap too and smiled seductively. “He can’t see,” she murmured as her tongue licked the inside of his ear. Maddie placed his hand between her legs. David could almost feel the heat.
“No, Maddie!” He pulled his hand away in pretended outrage. “I don’t want you to accuse me of making you do things that you don’t want.”
“But I want,” she purred in his ear causing his dick to twitch in his pants but he wasn’t going to give in so easily. Yeah, she was all for it when she was hot and horny then blamed him for making her do things when she came. That reminded him again of her ridiculous pacts so many months ago. He mentally shook off that thought.
“Well, baby, you know what they say...” She threw him a questioning look, and he lowered his head and sang into her ear: “You can't always get what you want...” He raised a mocking eyebrow and winked. She had the urge to slap then kiss that smirk off his face. She huffed in annoyance as she moved away, flinging the wrap over her bare shoulders.
David just smiled. He knew he’d make it up to her in their room; all night long. And besides, she deserved it to stir in her own juices a bit.
The lobby of the hotel was almost empty at that late hour; they retrieved their room key and had the elevator all to themselves. Maddie didn't waste any time; without showing the slightest sign of annoyance, she snuggled closely up to David, her arms wrapped around his waist underneath his jacket. Her right cheek was resting on his shoulder, and she was nuzzling the side of his throat. David had placed his left hand on her back, holding her in a light embrace and was reciting the names of American presidents in his head to keep his body's reactions under control and play it cool, although he was enjoying Maddie's affections, and her intentions were clear but David was determined to let her dangle a little more. He needed to show her that what she had done was wrong – she had made the first move at the wedding, she had begged him to make her come. He mentally shook his head; she was really a piece of work and he would have gladly strangled her if he didn't love her so damn much.
"David..." she sighed. He smiled to himself when she moved her body closer to him until they were almost one.
"Maddie..." he replied nonchalantly.
"You were incredible tonight when you told Sam off," she murmured as she stroked his back in sensual, slow circular moves under the jacket. "You put him right in his place... I was really proud of you."
David knew what she was after, of course, but he also knew she wasn't saying that just to flatter him and was honestly touched by her words. He kissed the top of her head. "I really appreciate you saying that, honey."
"It's true." She leaned her body even closer into his if possible and drew a deep breath, inhaling his scent. "And you smell so good..." David didn't even try to suppress his smirk; Maddie couldn't see it anyway, because her face was buried at the side of his neck. "You know you were the best looking man at this wedding," she purred.
"Well, having the most beautiful woman at my side surely helped," he smoothly gave back the compliment, and as if on cue, the elevator stopped with a ping. "We're here!" he announced brightly, and this time he suppressed a chuckle when he heard Maddie's disappointed sigh. He knew she wanted him badly again that she probably would even have been game if he had made a pass at her right there in the elevator – hit the "stop" button and banged her right against the polished mirrored wall. But no, he wouldn't give her a second chance to bash him for taking the risk of embarrassing her in public.
Suddenly, David remembered the time he had banged her against the wall in an elevator in Blue Moon's building. It had been a few days after they had slept together for the first time, and Maddie had still been in the “we have to make a pact” and “I don't want you” stage. David had had no other choice than to prove her she did want him – badly. Okay, that time he had always been the one “attacking” her, and she had always ended up not being able to resist him; at the reception, she had assumed that role. Not that he had needed much persuasion...
It seemed that some things really hadn't changed that much after all... she was still blaming him for her raging sex drive. She had even called him an animal, just like she had back then, in that other elevator. Well, she had to see that today, she had been dead wrong. David took her firmly by the hand and led her to their room. As soon as the door was locked behind them, Maddie was all over him again, tugging at the lapels of his tux jacket in a hasty attempt to get it off of him.
"Honey," David crooned, taking her gently by the wrists and pulled her hands away from him, "you can't want me now?"
She looked up at him and batted her long eyelashes. "Why yes, why does that surprise you?" she purred in a sultry voice.
David raised an ironic eyebrow, took a step back much to her dismay and took the jacket off himself. "Oh, I'm not sure... must be something about the way you kicked my shins under the table and called me an animal earlier," he replied, and Maddie's face fell.
"Oh please!" she threw up her hands in the air. "You know I don't mean those things!"
David carefully removed his cufflinks and placed them on the dresser. "And that is supposed to make it any better?"
Maddie gave a frustrated little snort. "Well, yes, of course!" she replied in an almost defiant tone. "If I really meant all the names I call you, I'd have left you by now!" David just folded his arms and tilted his head slightly to the right, giving her a sarcastic "really now?" look. "Oh, come on!" Maddie exclaimed in exasperation and rolled her eyes. "You know what I meant."
David shook his head and pursed his lips into an ironic smirk that she found extremely erotic against her will. "And you tell me that my mouth works faster than my brain?"
"Don't push it too far, Addison!" she warned in annoyed tone.
David undid his tie, and Maddie almost licked her lips when she watched him undressing. "Don't worry," he replied, "I won't be pushing anything today."
Maddie clenched her fists. "Jerk!" she snapped.
"Did you mean it this time?" David asked innocently and watched with delight how her face blushed and then turned white, and how a mix of fury and arousal was mirrored in her facial expression. He could almost see the steam rising from her ears. God, she was so sexy. He would never get tired of pushing her buttons. He wanted to throw her on the bed and fuck her senseless, but that would have to wait a little while. He focused on exercising the most possible amount of self-control he possibly could, and it was impressed how Maddie was obviously doing the same; there he was, deliberately provoking her, and normally she would have gone right for his throat or thrown something at him. But she was keeping her temper under control and focusing on the fact that she wanted to get laid, and badly.
"David, this is getting ridiculous. Let's not go to bed angry," she urged.
"I'm not angry, Maddie," he told her innocently.
"The hell you are!” she snapped. “You're mad at me!"
He slowly shook his head. "I'm not mad at you. I'm just not in the mood..." he paused for effect and pursed his lips before he added: "...to push anything."
"But you're always in the mood!" Maddie blurted out in a complaining voice, almost pouting, and David bit his lips in order not to laugh out loud. She looked so damn fuckable at that moment that he had to turn away while he was unbuttoning his shirt; he didn't want her to see his dick twitch in his pants in eager anticipation.
After a few seconds, he had it under control again, and while he slid his shirt off of his well-toned upper body, he turned around again slowly and said dryly: "Maybe I am, but unlike you I'm able to control my libido."
"Yeah, well – so am I!" she snapped furiously.
"Fine then," he replied and started to unbuckle his belt. Without another word, Maddie turned around on her heels and stomped into the bathroom, leaving a highly amused David to undress down to his boxers and then slip between the sheets.
In the bathroom, she almost ripped her dress off, she was so furious again. She just couldn't decide yet if she was mad because he had told her she didn't have any self-control – or because he was right. On the one hand, she hated that he had so much power over her; that he knew all her buttons to push and enjoyed doing exactly that, that he seemed to read her mind and that he surely could read her body. On the other hand, she knew that he would never abuse this power – he might be a mean devil, enjoying teasing her, enjoying the fact that she was putty in his expert hands; but that was all harmless. Plus, she knew that she had very similar powers over him.
After Maddie got ready for bed, she threw a last glance at her own reflection in the mirror and smiled a confident smile at herself. You can't resist him, but he can't resist you either.
The room was already dark except for a dim night light. Maddie crept between the sheets and snuggled up really close to David, the whole length of her body in touch with his. He was lying on his back. When she wrapped her left arm across his chest she noticed that, like most nights, he wasn't wearing a t-shirt. Oh, that felt so good... she threw her left leg across David's long limbs and huddled even closer. The hem of her short nightie slid up, so that her panty-covered core was pressed against his muscular thigh. Oh, that felt even better... almost automatically, she started to rub herself against his leg, and her hand drew lazy circles over his pecs and flat stomach and then wandered down his treasure trail.
She suppressed a moan, her desire fueled by the eager anticipation that any moment she would hold his magic wand in her hands, and the moves of her hips became more intense. Suddenly, before she could hit the gold mine, her wandering hand was caught firmly by David's.
“Is that your idea of controlling your libido, Blondie?” he asked in an amused voice.
“What's the matter with you?!” she hissed with annoyance in her voice and reluctantly stopped humping his leg. “It's getting a little childish, don't you think?”
He released her wrist and sat up. “No, I think childish is to take the initiative, make a pass at me, beg me to make you come and then get mad at me.”
Maddie rolled her eyes. “It's still about that?” She shook her head. “Look, David – I'm sorry I snapped at you. We almost got caught, and I was shocked and ashamed. You know damn well how I hate being embarrassed, and still you...”
“I didn't do anything this time,” David interrupted sharply. “I mean, it wasn't me who started it, and I don't like to be called an animal when I just answered your call of the wild.”
She sighed. “I told you already that I didn't mean it...”
“Well, that's not enough, Blondie.”
Maddie frowned. “Seriously, Addison? What do you want from me?!”
David leaned a little closer to her and looked deep into her eyes; she needed to understand this. “I want you to admit it.”
“What – that I made a pass at you?” she asked incredulously.
“Why, is that so hard to admit?” he fired back.
Maddie tilted her head a little and looked at David searchingly. Something in his face, a hint of hurt and insecurity, mellowed her and made her anger about his stubbornness dissolve into a warm and fuzzy cloud inside her chest. She kept forgetting that David Addison was not bulletproof. A fond smile tugged at the corners of her mouth.
“No, not at all,” she whispered, and his ears pricked up when he noticed the change of tone in her voice. “I loved the way you talked to Sam, your attitude turned me on so much,” she started. “I couldn't take my eyes off of you. I wanted you to lay your hands on me, and if I had spotted that room I swear I would have pulled you in there myself.”
He raised a skeptical eyebrow. “Really?”
Maddie nodded almost solemnly. “Really,” she confirmed. “In that moment, I didn't care where we were. Just being near you made me forget the world around us, like always.” She moved a little nearer to his side. “I was so hot for you I had to have you,” she admitted.
Suddenly, David grabbed her at the back of her head, and she gasped in surprise. “And don't you forget that!” he told her hoarsely and kissed her fully in the lips, and when they both went up for breath, he said: “I thought you'd never fold. I wouldn't have been able to control that one minute longer!” He took one of her hands and placed it on his huge boner.
Maddie drew in a sharp breath when she felt how ready he was for her, and she threw herself at him. David caught her firmly in his arms, and their lips crushed together in one fierce, heated kiss, almost devouring each other with all the pent-up passion their bickering and David's teasing had created in both of them. They fell back on the pillow, and Maddie was all over David, raining hot wild kisses all over his neck and chest, her hands caressing him everywhere. He closed his eyes and entangled his hands in her hair. “Oh honey,” he moaned, “I love how hot you are for me...”
“Always,” she murmured as she kissed her way over his stomach down his treasure trail, but when she had reached his twitching dick, he didn't let her do more than brush her lips over it once, grabbed her by the shoulders and pulled her up again.
“C'mere,” he groaned hoarsely and kissed her again, and in the blink of an eye he had rolled them over and was pinning her body down on the bed with his own.
“I want you,” Maddie breathed and tugged frantically at the waistband of his boxers.
“And I want you, honey,” David replied and pulled her panties down. With one deep thrust, he buried himself deep inside her, causing her to moan his name loudly. They remained like that for a few moments, frozen in time, their stares locked, focusing on each other. Then, David started to move; slowly, languidly at first, and Maddie closed her eyes, getting totally lost in their lovemaking.
When he felt the heat and passion building up in both of them, he shifted into a higher gear and increased the pace, knowing that they both didn't need much more to reach their climax. Maddie wrapped her legs around his waist and moved in sync with him, spurring him on by moaning into his ear.
“Oh, David... this is awesome... I can't hold on, I can't...” her voice got louder and more urging with each word, and that fueled David's own passion.
“Then don't,” he groaned, “just let got, babe... let go...”
When her body was shaken by her intense orgasm, she buried her face at the side of his neck and gasped unintelligible words, and her total loss of control pushed him over the edge too.
A few minutes later, they were both about to fall asleep; Maddie rested her head on David's bare chest, her left arm draped over his hips. David had his left arm wrapped around her shoulders and his right arm behind his head.
“David?” she murmured.
“Maddie,” he replied sleepily.
“I would have loved to see you talk to Sam like you did today when he came to L.A.,” she told him unexpectedly; she had been wanting to bring that up for a long time, and now seemed to be just the right moment.
David frowned. “I doubt that,” he answered slowly, “back then you thought he was a nice guy, remember?”
“That's true,” she agreed and lifted herself up on one elbow to look at him. “But I wanted you to fight for me.” She watched him closely and saw a shadow of sadness creep over his handsome face.
“I know that now,” he admitted slowly. “I was an idiot. I should have tried my luck, but I thought I'd never stand a chance against him. I thought you'd never pick me over him.”
She nodded with a regretful little smile. “I know that now,” she replied, and he shook his head.
“How did two dickheads like us ever manage to get their shit together?” he asked.
Maddie shrugged and smiled. “Kismet?”
David chuckled and pulled her down to him for a long kiss. Despite their sleepiness they made love again slowly until they fell asleep from sheer exhaustion, both with smiles on their happy faces.
***
The following morning David and Maddie met her parents for a quick breakfast before they were to catch their flight back home. They had refused the Hayes’ request to drive them to the airport; the traffic on Sundays was ridiculous, and Maddie didn’t want her parents to spend their day stuck on the highway.
Maddie was thrilled to hear that her parents were thinking of buying a small condo close to them in L.A. They wanted to be able to see the baby on a regular basis, so they figured that a condo would be a good investment. David was happy about that too; he wasn't used to having family close, and even when he had been a kid, there hadn't been a big family – his mother and his father had both been their parents' only children, and David hadn't met any of his grandparents; they had all four been gone before he had been born. He knew it would be wonderful for the Bean to have at least one set of grandparents near often, and he wouldn't mind having Virginia and Alex around on a regular basis.
They made plans for the older couple to come out the following month to look for something they liked, and Maddie had also dropped a hint that Virginia could maybe help her with a few things regarding the planning of the wedding. They parted happily, and all four of them were left with the impression that this visit had been a very pleasant occasion and that David had been a total success with Maddie's family.
David and Maddie woke up early that Monday; they wanted to get an early start to work. They had spoken to Bert and Agnes over the weekend; there were a couple of new clients who they had meetings with that day, and their substitutes also updated them on the cases the agency was currently working on. Everything seemed to be in order as the couple strode into Blue Moon.
The couple spent the morning meeting with the new clients and catching up with what they had missed when they had been away. Shortly before noon, David was just about to suggest they take a break and go to lunch when Agnes buzzed them to tell Maddie there was a call. Something in the secretary's voice made Maddie frown.
“Who is it, Agnes?” Maddie asked, and David who was perched on the edge of Maddie's desk raised a questioning eyebrow.
“It's Mr. LaSalle,” Agnes answered, clearly not approving. She hadn't forgotten what had happened the last time when that name had been mentioned. David and Maddie exchanged a clueless look.
“Lou LaSalle?” Maddie asked in disbelief; their last encounter hadn't been one in mutual respect.
“The same,” Agnes replied a little tight-lipped and snorted clearly audible when Maddie told her to put him on.
“Why would Lou LaSalle be calling us?” Maddie asked curiously as she picked up the receiver.
***
***
